Week in Pictures

It’s that time of the week again, and today I have a weird and wonderful selection of photos for you to start the weekend. Beginning with this incredible snap:

1. On the edge

This death-defying image shows extreme kayakers Steve Fisher, Dale Jardine and Sam Drevo standing on the edge of the Victoria Falls after having paddled up to the edge. One slip and these guys would have had a rather unfortunate end, but you have to admire their guts – and sheer insanity – to accomplish such a feat!

2. World’s Meatiest Sandwich

This mother-of-all-subs (seen here next to an ordinary-sized sandwich) is the invention of Chef Tristan Welch and uses a phenomenal 41 different types of meat, including 1.4kg of ham, 2kg of salami, turkey and bacon, 1kg of sausages and 720 grams of chorizo. The whole things weighs more than 12kg and would take around 10hrs to eat. Yum!

3. Oerlikon railway station, Zurich

‘What’s so special about a picture of a railway station?’ I hear you cry. Well, this particular 123-year-old building in Zurich has been successfully moved 60m to the left of its original location in order to make way for the expansion of the station. Yes, you heard right, they moved a whole building. If that isn’t cool enough to make the Week in Pictures, I don’t know what is.

4. Jelly Bean Art

The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is currently holding a very special exhibition of works made by artist Kristen Cummings, who has recreated iconic paintings using nothing but Jelly Beans! The fun and colourful pieces include replicas of the Mona Lisa, the Girl with the Pearl Earring and the The Great Wave Off Kanagawa. But my personal favourite has to be this one of Vincent van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night’:

5. Rope Bridge

And finally, I really love this image of a rope bridge in Northern Ireland taken by Faye Erem on her Lumia 800. It’s a cool photo. No further explanation needed. 😉
