Catch Tuesday's rare transit of Venus

via IO9

Tonight sees something that happened eight years ago, but won’t come around again in our lifetimes (unless you get yourself cryogenically frozen and defrosted for the event). Venus makes a transit across the sun appearing as a little black dot. This happens at sunrise in the U.K. on Wednesday, sunset in North America on Tuesday, so get out there and have a look (safely, of course, using the appropriate filters – *never* look directly at the sun). So, start poking holes in cereal boxes to make a viewer and get out and have a look.
