As Film Week draws to a close here at Nokia Connects, it’s time to take a look at the best apps available for maximising the film viewing experience on your Nokia.
Nokia Trailers
Cost: Free – in the Nokia Collection in the Marketplace and in the Store
Availability: Everywhere
In a nutshell: App for viewing teasers and trailers for new and upcoming films
via wpcentral
Part of the Nokia Collection, Nokia Trailers does what it says in its name. An array of trailers for upcoming films, including (when I looked) Jack Reacher, Looper and Alex Cross. Watching trailers just ate 30 minutes of my time…excellent. Another awesome feature that I used is the ‘movie theaters’ option. It finds the nearest cinemas to your location, along with the address and phone number (but links to their sites or listings yet). Great app to get a taste of a film to see if it’s your cup of tea (how English!)

Voddler
Cost: Free – in the Marketplace
Availability: Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Spain
In a nutshell: streaming films on demand – either paid or free (ad-supported)
via Windows Mobile Guru
Download and stream films and TV shows – ad-supported and free of charge, or ad-free with a monthly subscription of €7.90 on Voddler Plus. Currently only available in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Spain (presumably due to licensing issues), this Lumia-exclusive app has extra features over and above just streaming. How about organising Movie Night with friends that can’t get together in one place, all watching the same film, then commenting in a collected stream? Sounds a neat idea, and something I’ll give a try when it makes it’s way across the Atlantic.

Good Movie
Cost: Free – in the Marketplace
Availability: Everywhere
In a nutshell: Discover virtually everything there is to know about new and upcoming films
Jay Montano has taken a look at GoodMovie as part of his Lumiappaday series – and he does his usual excellent job at examining the app from all angles.
It’s one of the longer videos in the series, but that is due to the large number of options that the app has. Trailers, reviews, the ability to screenshot a film poster and more. It includes subtle touches like having the poster of the film you’re looking at as a washed out background, and the Live Tile changes too. Jay says you should ‘definitely check it out’. So I will.

…and there’s always the Nokia-exclusive Dark Knight Rises trailer to whet your appetite before it gets released in a couple of weeks.
