Social Media Week, sponsored by Nokia, is a worldwide event that’s exploring and celebrating the social, cultural and economic impact of social media. It’s all about connection, collaboration and sharing, and its schedule this year (as every year) is jam-packed with discussions and workshops and interactive events. It’s all happening between February 18th and 22nd 2013 across ten different cities worldwide, but if you can’t attend, you can follow it all on your smartphone with the Nokia SMW app.
The perfect match
Nokia, of course, are a perfect match for SMW, since not only do all Nokia smartphones have amazing connectivity for all your social media needs, but their on-board cameras are second-to-none—and social media is all about image-sharing. The full HD PureView Camera on the Lumia range is the best in the world: with 8mp and a Carl Zeiss lens, superb low-light performance, accurate exposures, and jaw-dropping image stabilization, it’s hard to believe that all this comes bundled with a phone. But don’t take our word for it: test-drive it at SMW, where Nokia is showcasing imaging all week.
Appy days in NYC
It’s all about apps in NYC during Social Media Week: Nokia are curating a panel to extol the virtues of mobile photo and video applications like Postcards on the Run, Lomogram and Vimeo. After that’s whetted your appetite, mosey over to the Photo Lab to try out the Nokia Lumia 920’s powerful PureView camera: get snapping, and see the results on your Facebook profile. Then don’t forget to swing by the 1197 Mobile Photography Conference for three days’ worth of photographic events, plus an interactive gallery.
Showboating in Hamburg
Meanwhile, in Hamburg, Germany, fifty luck SMW participants will get to take to the seas! By which we mean, they’ll get to sail in Hamburg harbour and take part in a twitter photo contest showcasing the awesome imaging quality of the Lumia 920. To check out the entries, look for hashtags #smwhh, #welovehh and #nokia. On Friday, at an after-show Social Media Week party, the contest winner will be presented with a Nokia Lumia 920. Nice!
Going pro in Milan
Already got a camera-phone, but not sure how to take full advantage of it? In Milan, Italy, one of the big Social Media Week events planned is a session with media professionals exploring what it’s like to be a photographer today. Talk to the pros about journalism, mobile technology, and how smartphones have affected contemporary photography. If you’ve ever wanted the inside scoop, this one’s for you!
Picture perfect in Lagos
In Lagos, Nigeria, interactivity is the buzzword for Social Media Week! A pop-up photo booth on the Victoria Island event site will let visitors get hands-on experience of the Lumia 920’s amazing camera. All SMW attendees in Lagos can get their pics snapped with a 920 and posted straight to the social media network of their choice. You’ll also get to see your picture up on public screens throughout the Lagos SMW venues, and it will be made available for download from both the event blog and the Nokia Nigeria website, so everybody can see just how good you, and the Lumia 920, look!
A photo festival of fun
That’s not all for Lagos: award-winning photographer Delphine Fawundu is leading a week-long youth photo workshop with local secondary school students. For this special event, Nokia are partnering up with Etisalat Nigeria, who sponsor the Lagos Photo Festival and run the Etisalat ‘Adopt-a-School’ initiative. The young participants will use Lumia 920s to shoot a documentary, and they’ll learn to use photo apps to edit their pictures. And after the dust has settled on SMW, the work continues: the students will post their results to the SMW Lagos Blog, and several photos from the project will be chosen to be exhibited during the Lagos Photo Festival in October 2013.
How’s that for a showcase?
