Jetpack Joyride

We all dreamed of flying around with jetpacks strapped to our backs when we were young, didn’t we?

Some of us may still be getting over the disappointment that this form of personal transport has yet to make it to the mass market.

However, any lingering sadness will soon be forgotten with the exciting news that award-winning game, Jetpack Joyride, is now available for your Nokia Lumia smartphone.

Jetpack Joyride is brought to you by Halfbrick Studios, who are the same people who created the melon-slicing extravaganza, Fruit Ninja.

In their new game, you take the heroic Barry Steakfries on a series of adventures with a range of cool jetpacks. It sounds like tremendous fun already, doesn’t it?

The return of Barry Steakfries

If you’ve played other Halfbrick games, Monster Dash and Age of Zombies, then you will already be familiar with Barry Steakfries.

Halfbrick’s Daniel John tells Conversations that the inspiration behind Jetpack Joyride lies in these previous games.

“In Monster Dash, Barry has to run, jump and shoot monsters, whilst collecting weapons and bonus hearts. One of the weapons is a Machine Gun Jetpack, which was really well received – and was most people’s favourite,” explains Daniel.

“Seeing how fun this gadget was, we decided to make a game based on it.”

Halfbrick

Halfbrick, based in Brisbane, Australia, has been around for about 10 years and have worked closely with Nokia for a lot of that time.

Fruit Ninja is available in the Nokia Store for Symbian Belle smartphones and, Halfbrick’s Daniel John tells Conversations that Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 will become ‘a key strategic platform for us, and our games.’

Halfbrick have already scored big hits with Fruit Ninja, Jetpack Joyride and they have another new title Fish Out of Water, which is also expected to make a big splash. What’s the secret to their success?

“One thing Halfbrick prides itself on is a high quality bar. We work on a wide variety of games, such as Fruit Ninja, Jetpack Joyride and Fish out of Water,” says Daniel.

“All of these games are completely different from one another, but they all share the same level of polish and attention to detail that makes them recognisable as Halfbrick games.”

Daniel adds that they have got plenty of other awesome games in development and there will be more delights to come very soon for Windows Phone 8. We can’t wait!
