We’ve always known that Nokia lovers have fantastic musical taste helped, we hope, by 24 million free songs on Nokia Music.  So, in celebration of this, the song itself and, of course, the smartphone that made it all happen, we’ve made a Something Real music video.  Filmed entirely upon the Nokia Lumia 925, it features vocalist, Joanna Sulonen, the main man himself, DJ Koobra, on snare drum and some slinky dance moves from girls in golden hot pants, all in exuberant Nokia Lumia colours.

We think it rocks. To see for yourself, grab your dancing shoes, switch on the disco lights and press play.

We hope you enjoyed this as much as we did.  It certainly is an incredibly catchy tune, but where exactly did the inspiration for it come from? To find out the answer to this question and more, we hooked up with Kalle Wahlberg aka DJ Koobra. Here’s what he had to say.

1. Your track has been a massive hit. Where did you get the inspiration for it from?

I was trying to write something catchy and more pop influenced than I usually do. I guess there’s influences in there from the 80’s synth pop and dance music aesthetic and modern stuff as well.

 2. Who is the vocalist, Joanna, and how did you find her?

Joanna Sulonen is a talented singer from Helsinki. I met her three years ago while recording her vocals for a project of a friend of mine. I really liked her voice and at some point we ended up working on a bunch of tracks together.

3. What do you like best about the video and why?

I like the vivid candy store colors. The song is the most pop track I’ve ever written and the video fits the mood perfectly. I also like the close-ups of random things, like the rolling marble etc.

 4. It’s the first music video to ever be shot on a Nokia Lumia 925. How do you think the camera did and do you see a future for smartphone shot music videos?

I was amazed how good the video ended up looking. Especially the detailed close-ups of different objects. I can’t really say if there’s a future since I’m not a filmmaker, but if the end result looks like this, I guess why not!

5. If you could have any band or musician in the world play “more than your eyes can see”, who would it be and why?

I don’t know, such a tough question. Maybe Yellow Magic Orchestra, because I’m listening to them right now. Also, we’re releasing a bunch of remixes later in the summer, so you’ll get to hear other artists/producers interpretations of the song.

A fascinating insight into the mind of a music maestro. Next week, we’ll be taking a closer look at the making of the video and get a better insight into how the Nokia Lumia 925 performed. So, if you’ve got any questions about that or the song itself, let us know in the comments below.  In the meantime, why not have another listen. Go on, you know you want to!
