Xpress-Now-2

Nokia Xpress Now is a Web App application, and it’s ideal for people who are still getting to grips with the Internet. Xpress Now uses information gathered from Nokia’s Xpress Browser to provide interesting, topical and relevant content. Although it’s still at a Beta stage, I’ve been trying out Xpress Now on the Nokia Asha 501.

The app comprises two distinct options: ‘What’s hot’, and ‘You may also like’.  When we spoke to Andy Kelm, Vice President – Nokia Xpress Services, he explained:

“By combining the aggregated view of more than 80 million monthly users of Nokia Xpress Browser together with your browsing preferences, Nokia Xpress Now helps you to discover hot stories and web sites you didn’t know existed.”

The actual app itself couldn’t be easier to navigate, and the intuitive layout is particularly suited to devices like the Nokia Asha 501. You can switch between ‘What’s hot’ and ‘You may also like’ at the top of the page, with all the content displayed below.

I’ve been sticking to ‘What’s hot’ for entertainment this week. The stories are arranged in tiles, with full width and half width tiles filling the page, and a look that’s not entirely dissimilar to a Windows Phone 8 Start screen.

The tiles offer images and a headline, and clicking on it provides an introduction to a ‘hot’ story. If it appeals, you can click on ‘Full story’ to read more.

Xpress Now comes into its own when you’re bored and looking for new content. It helps to throw up websites that you wouldn’t necessarily have thought of, so you don’t end up always visiting the same old sites.

The ‘You may also like’ function promises to be even better in this regard, and I’ll be trying it out over the next week. In the meantime, you can find out more about Nokia Xpress Now and read all about the inspiration behind it in our interview with Andy Kelm.
