With over 190 million users worldwide, LINE is one of the most popular free apps around, and it’s now available for the Nokia Asha 501. The app offers a free and fun way to send messages and media content to your friends, and it couldn’t be easier to use.

The first time you use LINE, you’ll need to register. Once you’ve done that, it’s time to create a user ID so your friends can find you and you can start chatting. To do this, simply click the Profile tab and then click User ID. If your friends are also joining for the first time, make sure they do the same; then you can also search for them.

The app itself is made up of four main sections: Friends, Chats, Add Friends and Settings, so it really couldn’t be easier to use.

Here comes the fun part. LINE differentiates itself from the majority of messaging apps with the ability to send so-called stickers – effectively huge, stylised emoticons – and there’s a huge array of stickers that you can send. Best of all, they’re more varied and expressive than your usual smileys.

LINE isn’t just limited to stickers, either: it’s also easy to send photographs to your friends, both from your collection stored on your Asha 501, or by taking new snaps through the app itself. To do the latter, simply click ‘Options’ when you have a message thread open, ‘Choose a photo’, and then ‘Take a photo’. Once you’ve taken the snap, it gets sent automatically.

Push notifications also mean that you’ll get a notification when new messages come through, allowing you to chat with people in real time.

It’s also a great app to have when it comes to talking to multiple people, and it’s easy to set up group chats in LINE. All you need to do is click on the Friends tab, select options, and then ‘Create a group’. With that done, each message you send will go through to all the people you’ve put in that group.

LINE is now available for the Nokia Asha 501. You’ll also be able to use LINE with the QWERTY-based Nokia Asha 210, Asha 205, Asha 200, Asha 201 and Nokia Asha 302.

Even more great messaging apps…

Social networking apps can make all the difference to your mobile phone experience, but you’ll also need to get your friends to sign up. If they’re not already using LINE why not check out some of the other fantastic options, which are now also available for the Nokia Asha 501?
