There’s no right answer about how warm or vivid the colours should be on your Lumia’s screen. Some people prefer cold, ultra-natural colours; others want more vivid, warm tones. It’s entirely up to you.

That’s why your television has colour settings. And it’s why the Nokia Lumia 925 and Lumia 1020 – at present – have a similar ‘colour profile’ settings screen.

It’s pretty common for a person’s phone screen to be the main way that they share pictures with friends – we just show them the screen. It’s increasingly a way to consume media with 4G LTE and apps like Netflix and Vimeo. So why not make it look exactly how you like it.

You get to the Lumia colour profile screen through the ‘display + touch’ item on the settings menu.

On the screen there are two sliders, and a carousel above showing a variety of sample pictures. The colour balance of the pictures changes as you adjust the sliders.

The two sliders control colour temperature and saturation. Saturation describes the intensity of the colour; the temperature describes how warm or cold those colours are.

Between the two of them, you make your pictures as hot as Hollywood, or cold as a Finnish winter.

As noted above, the colour profile settings screen is currently available on the Nokia Lumia 925 and Lumia 1020. It will be rolling out to other Nokia Lumia smartphones running Windows Phone 8 as part of the Lumia Amber software update later this summer.
