From the Arizona Cardinals to the Washington Redskins and every team in between, there are plenty of handy apps for hard-core professional football fans.

And by “football”, in this case, we mean the American kind. The NFL, baby.

NFL1-1

While this listing does not include ALL of the football apps you can find in the Windows Phone Store, we’re concentrating our efforts on the ones that deserve your attention.

Of course, to begin, there is the official NFL Mobile app, which has features galore, and if you are a Verizon Wireless customer in the U.S., you will get access to a version that allows you to subscribe ($5/month) to “Premium Features” and access the NFL RedZone on Sunday afternoons, as well as Live NFL games on Thursday, Sunday and Monday nights throughout the regular season.

When you first start using this free app, you can select your favorite team, and you can choose to get push notifications if you want, as well as enable various alerts, including: team news, injury reports, game highlights and start times, final scores and more.

There are persistent banner ads across the bottom (mostly for NFL-related merchandise), and below that is a single icon for “Scores” which may be the most important piece of information on the screen, if you are away from the TV at game time.

NFL2

The app is divided into a section covering the entire NFL, the team you pick, video highlights (“Watch”), and a menu with various other sections, including: schedules, standings, and “Fantasy” if you play in the NFL’s fantasy league. There are also options for the online shop and a link to Ticket Exchange, so you can buy tickets to upcoming games (sometimes you just need to be there in person).

You could also choose to go with the ESPN ScoreCenter app or the CBS Sports app, too. Both of these apps cover a wide range of sports – not just football.

Football Live is a free app from Denham Software Solutions that lets you choose from loads of news sources to get your football fix, including Yahoo and Fox Sports.

The free ScoreMobile app (with brief banner ads that pop up) has NFL Football listings, as well as NCAA (college) Football highlights, too.

NFL3

One of my personal favorites, though, is Football Pro ’14 by independent developers Neuralnet, LLC. This app is available in both a paid and free version (the latter has banner ads). The app is really comprehensive, and includes many of the bells & whistles you would expect to find, including the ability to set your favorite team with a Live Tile, notifications, and much more. Additionally, the developers are highly responsive to user inquiries, and make use of feedback that is offered.
