Nokia Refocus: shoot first, focus later
Why waste valuable shooting time trying to perfect the focus of a single object? Nokia Refocus can do it for you!
“Nokia Refocus captures different images over the entire focus range. What this means is that you don’t have to worry about getting your shot in focus before you take a photo. You just capture your image first and then play with focus afterwards. It’s cool!” explains Sami Niemi, Nokia’s director of Capture & Relive software product management.
This saves a lot of time in the photo-taking process and puts a stop to getting back home and realising that your photo isn’t quite in focus.
Nokia Refocus calculates and creates a depth map on the scene in front of you. When you press the camera shutter key it takes a number of photos, each at a different focus stage and produces a photo with a focus that can be adjusted whenever you feel like it.
Try out Nokia Refocus by selecting parts of the images below.
This not only simplifies how you take a photo, but also gives you endless editing opportunities.
If you notice something in the foreground that you didn’t spot before, focus on it. Plus, if you want the entire shot to be in focus, Nokia Refocus can do that with just one click too.
This works especially well if you’re trying to take a macro (close-up) photo.
While close-up photos look amazing and full of detail, by nature they tend to leave the background out-of-focus. Nokia Refocus can keep the close-up in focus, including the rest of the scene.
To make an already focus-perfect photo even better, Nokia Refocus also includes a fun colour-pop feature. When applied, the whole photo turns to black and white, apart from the bit you’re focused on.
There’s also an exciting social-sharing twist, too, Sami explains:
“Nokia Refocus isn’t just about being able to refocus your photos on your own phone, we want you to share those stunning shots with your friends and let them refocus the shots, too! When you share these photos on Facebook or on the web, they can do precisely that.”
The Nokia Refocus app will be available for the Nokia Lumia 920, Lumia 925, Lumia 928, Lumia 1020, and Lumia 1520, and will be available to download from the Nokia Collection in the Windows Phone Store in the coming weeks.
UPDATE: As some of you have pointed out, the Refocus images didn’t show up for a while, following a massive battering from hordes of eager Conversations readers. However, the storm is calming and they should already be returned for most of you. Thanks for your patience!
