Nokia Lumia Instagramer of the week: Tomasz Þór Veruson
On any given day an average of 7.3 million people use Instagram. That’s nearly 2 million more than the entire population of Finland.
Amongst this huge number of mobile photographers are an ever increasing number of Nokia Lumia sharp shooters. The heady combination of the world’s greatest camera smartphones and the world’s biggest mobile photography social network is a powerful lure for people who want to learn about, experiment with and share their photography. To celebrate people doing just that in spectacular style, we’re showcasing Nokia Lumia instagramers from across the globe. Last week, we enjoyed the work of Anshul Ravishankar from Mysore in India. This week we’re heading north to Reykjavík in Iceland to hook up with Tomasz Þór Veruson. Before we see a selection of his work, we asked a few questions about his passion. Take it away, Tomasz!
Which Nokia Lumia do you have and what do you like about it most?
I’ve owned a couple of them in the past, starting with the Nokia Lumia 920, then 925 and lately I have been using the 1020. For me a phone isn’t a phone anymore. I want a companion, something fun, easy to use, with some cool features and of course…a GREAT camera! I am a photographer so I need to have a camera on me at all times. I don’t want the hassle of bringing my DSLR all the time and that’s why I use my phone so much.
Where do you take most of your photos and what sort of photos do you like to take best?
I document my life, from A-Z. I try to shoot the little moments that I don’t want to forget, whether it’s a Sunday coffee or a hike up to the mountains. I live in Iceland, a country that gives you a lot to work with, the only thing you have to do is be awake and ready 🙂
What are your top tips for taking Instagram photos on your Nokia Lumia?
It’s really all about the natural light, if you don’t have it then no filter will save you. Try using the depth-of-field to make magical photos. Use your imagination, do something new, explore. Learn from others, see what others do and try to make them better. Oh yeah, and always shoot in top quality. And sometimes, just sometimes, put your phone down and just enjoy the moment.

Which are your favourite photos you’ve shared on Instagram and why do you like them?
This is my little town of Reykjavík. I’m in love with it!

I shoot a lot of black and white. I like the simplicity of it. And often it looks better and more dramatic than colour.
Sunrise. The colours, the skies. It just works.
As I said, I try to shoot my day-to-day life, the moments. This is an elevator at my work. (no animals were harmed during the making of this photograph.)
Sunday coffee.
Weekend hike. The Nokia Lumia 1020 really shines in situations like these.
A little off-road action. Iceland is a magical place for a photographer – the scenery is just asking for you to capture it.
Early sunrise – strong colors. The depth-of-field really shines through here.
