Nokia Lumia Instagramer of the Week: Victor Ng Wai Loon

Recent research by Yahoo estimates that as many as 880 billion photos will be taken in 2014.

An astounding figure by any measure, but perhaps not so surprising when you discover that 27,800 photos are uploaded to Instagram every minute! And with Instagram Beta now available for Nokia Lumia users that figure can only get higher. One man contributing to the digital photography revolution is this week’s Nokia Lumia Instagramer, Editor of BlogJack, Malaysian Victor Ng Wai Loon. Based in Kuala Lumpar, the stunning capital city of Malaysia, Victor’s photos give us an amazing insight into this vibrant multi-cultural city of 1.6 million and the surrounding region. Before checking them out though, we asked Victor to share some of his thoughts about his passion for photography and love of Lumias.

Nokia-Lumia-1520-Windows-Phone-8Which Nokia Lumia do you have and what do you like most about it?

I am a huge Nokia fan. The first Lumia I owned was the Lumia 800, which I queued for for 10 hours to be one of the first 100 people in Singapore to purchase this beauty. Currently, I am using the ‘Giant’ Lumia 1520 and up to date I have numbers of Lumia including Lumia 800, Lumia 520, Lumia 920, Lumia 925 and Lumia 1020 in my Lumia Collection.

Personally I love the beautiful design and colourful body of Lumia phones. Undoubtedly the gorgeous Full HD Screen, superb camera and amazing battery life are the reasons that I choose Lumia 1520 as my main phone.

Where do you shoot most of your photos and what sort of photos do you like to take best?

Apart from taking photo in the Kuala Lumpur where I live, I take a lot of photos travelling. Natural landscapes and city view photos are always my preference. Recently I have decided to put my DSLR aside and brought only Nokia Lumia as the main camera while travelling to Hong Kong, Macau, GuangZhou, Singapore and Vietnam. I was surprised by how good the photos produced. It really meet my expectations.

What are your top tips for taking Instagram photos on your Nokia Lumia?

The various camera controls offered in Nokia Camera really make the experience of mobile photography a lot more professional and a lot mor fun. Before taking photo, I always manually control the camera settings such as ‘Shutter Speed’ ‘Exposure Value’ and ‘ISO’ depending on the light condition. To taking advantage of Optical Image Stabilization in Lumia, I always use slow shutter speed and lower ISO to ensure my low light photos are sharp and have less noise.

In my opinion, natural landscape and city view photos always look better in full size. So I insist on sharing them to Instagtam without too much cropping. By using a third party instagram app in Windows Phone Store called  6tag, I am allowed to upload full size photos to instagram. This app is fantastic!
