The Nokia Asha 501 handset was among a smorgasbord of Nokia devices to earn high praise at the iF design awards 2014 in Munich.

The affordable 3-inch device, running on the Asha operating system, proved a huge hit with the judging panel, which bestowed it with gold award in the product design category.

“With the Asha 501, Nokia has done a fine job at producing a neat product that is well designed at a very reasonable price for the market,” the panel explained. “The colourful covers of the phone form a strong identity that resonates with its market. Furthermore, this product is executed very well.”

The wave of success for Nokia didn’t end there: The Nokia Camera app, which sits within photo-centric devices like the Nokia Lumia 1020, earned an iF communication design award for its intuitive UI, ease of access to settings and the brilliant ZoomReinvented functionality.

Meanwhile, the ground-breaking Nokia Lumia 1020, with its 41-megapixel camera, was itself honoured with a product design award, as were fellow Windows Phone champs, the Nokia Lumia 620 and Lumia 1520, Lumia 720, Lumia 520 and Lumia 625.

The Lumia 2520 tablet and power keyboard RT, Nokia’s first entry into the tablet PC market also scooped a 2014 award, while the company’s CMD Portfolio colour and design strategy also earned a nod in the product design category.

The wave of success at the prestigious awards is certainly no anomaly. Across all of the company’s international territories, Nokia has been awarded a whopping 88 times since 1983. That including 44 recognitions in 15 categories for Nokia Finland and 23 commendations for Nokia Germany!

The International Forum for Design has been honouring awesome achievement in design for over 60 years, since way back in 1953. In that time it has dished out 12,000 awards in the process.
