Nokia Lumia Instagramer of the Week: Sigrid Sohm
Renowned French poet, Charles Baudelaire famously said of urban life, “What strange phenomena we find in a great city, all we need do is stroll about with our eyes open. Life swarms with innocent monsters.”
Thanks to the incredible development of mobile technology, capturing these strange phenomena is now easier than ever. It’s perhaps for this reason that street photography has recently grown so popular. Not only do we practically always have our smartphones at hand, but their less intrusive design means we can capture everyday scenes much more subtly. This week’s Lumia Instagramer is a fantastic example of someone who relishes this photographic art. Sigrid Sohm, a.k.a. @Ettisi lives in the beautiful Southern French city of Montpellier. A member of Instagram since early 2012, she helped launched the group @igersmontpellier in July 2012 and this month helped launch their first ever exhibition. Her passion for photography and her city is clear from her pictures, but before we check out her top ten favourite Lumia photos, let hear from the the women herself.
Which Nokia Lumia do you have and what do you like most about it?
I’ve had the Nokia Lumia 1020 for the last couple of months, ever since partnering up with Nokia for the #lumiainfocus project. The standout feature, which I prefer about the Lumia 1020 is it’s amazing camera. The picture quality really is incredible for a smartphone. In terms of specifics, I love the Nokia Smart Cam and Action Shots features.
Where do you shoot most of your photos and what sort of photos do you like to take best?
My most recent photos, taken with my Lumia, have been of either Paris or my home city of Montpellier in the South of France. I love to take photos in the streets. I love the challenge of snapping shots of scenes that are around me in an original and unusual way. I’m also a big fan of street art. Another thing I really enjoy is getting my Instagram friends to pose for me.
What are your top tips for taking Instagram photos on your Nokia Lumia?
1.) My best advice for Instagram is to remember to have fun. It should be a pleasure.
2.) It’s also important to look around all the time, especially because with a smartphone at hand you are free to take photos anytime, anywhere.
3.) Remember to experiment with framing and editing.
4.) Tag your pictures so they get more exposure. I always use #lumia1020
5.) Don’t forget the social side of Instagram. Remember to respond to comments and interact with people whose photos you love. And why not meet with instagramers in your city. I manage the group @igersmontpellier with @i_trema_a and we always have a great time at our instameets
