OneDrive, many devices: 10 best ways to use it on everything

Storing your content in the cloud couldn’t be easier. With support for Lumia, Asha and Nokia X, OneDrive is indispensable as it is smart. Here’s a collection of tips to make it work for you.

ONEdrive-app1. Download the OneDrive Windows Phone app for Lumia

If you’ve got OneDrive installed on your desktop or laptop, you’ll be synching files through a dedicated OneDrive folder. Download this app and you’ll be able to see and access your content just as you would on your computer. You can also share files, pin folders to your Start Screen and upload multiple photos and videos simultaneously.

2. Download the latest Asha software update

If you’re an Asha owner, you should have (or are about to) receive an over-the-air update that, among other things, will give you 7GB of free OneDrive storage space, allowing you save precious moments right to the cloud.

3. Upload high-res photos to OneDrive

If you have a Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1 tablet:

Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings. Then tap or click OneDrive, followed by Camera roll.

Here you can choose to upload photos at good quality, or for higher resolution, best quality.

4. Use OneDrive for your business

OneDrive currently offers 25Gb of storage for businesses. However, coming soon, you’ll be able to purchase a whopping 1TB to, among many things, sync a multitude of files across devices, create and edit Office documents in a browser, perform auditing and reporting and have access to advanced administration features for detailed control.

One-Drive-office5. Sync Office documents from your Lumia

With Microsoft Office built into all Lumias, you can download, edit and share your documents on the go. Whenever you create, adjust or save a document, OneDrive will automatically synchronise to the cloud, meaning your changes are replicated regardless of device or platform.

6. Automatically save photos you take to OneDrive

If you’re using Windows Phone 8 or above, in the App list, tap Photos. Then tap More, followed by Settings. Within Auto upload, tap OneDrive. Under Photos or Videos, tap Good quality for lower resolution or Best quality for full resolution.

7. Save photos, audio and video from the web directly to OneDrive

Rather than taking up valuable memory on your Nokia Asha, you can save media files straight to OneDrive.

The new Xpress Browser is partly responsible for this, but the OneDrive integration proves very useful nonetheless.

8. Simple sharing on Nokia X

Sharing more of your photos or documents is easier if you’re tapped into the cloud.

Share from the built-in email client, Outlook.com, or within an SMS by selecting the OneDrive option. Alternatively, you can share directly from the OneDrive app.

9. Sync Notes to OneDrive

If you’ve got the OneNote app installed on your Lumia, it’ll sync all Notes automatically, but you can choose to sync selected notes, too.

10. Set your computer folders

Upon installation, make sure to point OneDrive at your chosen files and folders – that way everything will be in sync wherever you go.
