Bing Apps ‘roam’ from Lumia to Lumia
By tapping into the cloud, the increasing range of Bing apps can deliver consistent news and updates to all of your Windows and Windows Phone 8.1 devices.
But what does that mean? This: your PC, tablet and Windows 8.1 phone, such as the Lumia 630, will share the same content and preferences. Just set it up once and Bing will do the rest.
This ability to sync data between all of your devices is what Bing is calling ‘roaming’, and is available if you’re running Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1.
As Bing celebrates its 5th birthday today, let’s take a look at some of those Bing apps.
Health & Fitness
Looking after your body has never been easier, thanks to Health & Fitness.
By providing you with the latest fitness and medical information, including nutrition details, you can make well-informed decisions on how you want to take care of yourself.
Want to increase your fitness regime? There are hundreds of workouts and tools available that can be customised to your specific needs.
With optional syncing to the Microsoft HealthVault, you’ve got additional access to Sync Tracker data, such as Diet, Cardio, and GPS Tracker.
Devices with the new in-built Nokia SensorCore, such as the Lumia 630 and Lumia 635 can track your progress as you walk, jog, or run, and can be synced to your account.
Health & Fitness also includes a symptom checker. Obviously, use this as a guide not as an alternative to a professional doctor.
Food & Drink
Designed to make you a better cook, or at least help you boil an egg, Food & Drink provides you with loads of tips and detailed step-by-step instructions with glossy digital photos.
With more than 300,000 recipes gathered from a variety of sources, such as AllRecipes, BigOven, Epicurious and Bon Appetit, you’ll almost certainly find the right recipe for the right occasion.
Once you’ve stumbled upon that perfect meal, you can add it to a collection for easy viewing later.
Additionally, you can add ingredients from within a recipe to a shopping list should you need to pick up anything.
And because your data is stored in the cloud, this shopping list is accessible from any device where you’ve installed Food & Drink.
Finance
Are you a keen stock-watcher? If so, you’ll probably want to know if you need to ditch those shares, or invest in more.
With Bing Finance, you can take your tickers with you. From your computer, just add them to your Watchlist and you’ll see them loaded into your Lumia for easy trading while you travel.
News
By tapping into leading news sources, including Reuters and Associated Press, you’re guaranteed to have reliable updates delivered to your devices.
Bing News gives you the opportunity to really define what sort of news you’re interested in by selecting specific topics, whether it’s 3D printing, grass, or shoes. Anything you can think of, really.
These same news stories and topics are all synced to your devices, meaning whatever your tastes; you don’t need to set it up multiple times.
