HotelTonight app debuts on Windows Phone

If you haven’t made hotel reservations yet for your next vacation, don’t worry. Sometimes it pays to wait…

HotelTonight-new-screenAs of today, HotelTonight, a top-rated hotel-booking app with deals in more than 300 destinations in Europe and the Americas, is available for Windows Phone. In June, it will also be available for Windows tablets such as the Lumia 2520.

If you own a Lumia or other Windows phone, you, lucky reader, get a special discount off your first booking! But I’m getting ahead of myself.

As its name implies, HotelTonight allows you to book last-minute hotel reservations, usually for a discount, for stays from one to five nights. Users get the low-down on each hotel via useful categories such as “Why We Like It” and “Need to Know.”

Optimized for mobile

The free and fully mobile hotel-booking app also features a beautiful, intuitive, navigational user interface with professional photos of the hotels (more than 10,000 so far in 24 countries) as well as app-user photos, so you can get a true feel for what the hotels are like.

“That’s a real differentiator for us,” said HotelTonight CEO Sam Shank of the photos, which are optimized for the mobile experience. “What does the hotel look and feel like? That’s something you can’t describe. That’s something you have to see.”

HotelTonight-1Developed for Windows

Developing the HotelTonight app for Windows platform was a “very positive” experience as well as a logical and key step for the company, Shank added. By the way, that’s him in the photo above, holding a Lumia 1020.

“We’re a mobile-first and mobile-only company, so it’s important for us to be on all the major platforms,” he said. “We saw that Windows is maturing and getting to critical mass, and it has the [high] level of quality that HotelTonight customers deserve.”

Shank noted that the Windows app has features that don’t exist in the iOS and Android versions. That includes navigational elements such as the side-swiping format — much like turning the pages of a magazine — when searching for hotels.

“We want the app to feel natural and magical, and it plays well with the Windows platform while preserving what makes HotelTonight unique,” he said. “It’s about simplicity, about quickly booking a hotel room, and about the beauty of the design.”

10-second booking process

Speaking of simplicity, the booking process on HotelTonight couldn’t be easier: three taps and a swipe. Intrigued? Try it yourself: To celebrate its launch on Windows, HotelTonight is offering a special discount just for Windows Phone users: $40 off your first booking with the promo code WINTONIGHT.

So what are you waiting for? If you try out HotelTonight, let us know!
