Nokia X2: Taking X steps forward

Only four months ago we introduced the world to the Nokia X family. That family is growing up fast, as we welcome the Nokia X2 Dual SIM.

“Through and through, this is the best example of the Nokia X family. The platform is maturing perfectly and this is a true 2nd generation device.”

Jussi Nevanlinna, Vice President, Product Marketing, Mobile Phones at Microsoft, talks us through how the Nokia X2 came to be.

“People around the world have really embraced our Nokia X family of devices, for example in India we are the number three best selling smartphone and we’re also top sellers in many countries such as Russia, Nigeria, Kenya and Pakistan.”

Enhanced experience

With any amount of success there’s the need to build on the basics as well as excite people with new features and services.

The Nokia X2 comes with enhanced specs compared to the first generation Nokia X, boasting a larger 4.3” ClearBlack display, 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, 1GB of RAM, 5MP camera and a longer-lasting 1800mAh battery.

And the design and platform gets an update too.

“In design alone, we’ve built on the beautiful first generation devices, and have injected something a little different and new, as you can see by the second layering effect. It just glows!”

“And we’ve continued to evolve the Nokia X platform and user experience, too,” says Jussi.

“The home screen experience has really evolved with extra room for additional tiles. There’s also the new home button; you can long-press the back button for easier multitasking; the new apps list view; and Fastlane has gotten richer too, with more app detail exposed.

More choice

Like its first generation siblings, the Nokia X continues to give consumers more choice in the sub-100€ price point.

“Lumia is our primary smartphone strategy. At the same time we believe that everybody should have easy and direct access to the most popular Microsoft services, such as Outlook, OneDrive, Skype, and now also OneNote through Nokia Store.

More people are now connected to the Microsoft cloud through Nokia X.”

Microsoft apps aside, there are plenty of others to choose from in the Nokia Store. Here, each item is moderated and tested to ensure that the app or game that you download is of high quality. Additionally, other third-party managed and operated app stores are available.

Scale and reach for developers

The Nokia X2 and the rest of the Nokia X family offer great opportunities for the developers too.

The developers have access to one of the largest operator billing networks in the world and developer programs such as the newly expanded DVLUP program, now available in over 190 countries.

“Developers are hugely important and we’re out there working side by side, holding developer events, challenges and competitions to create great apps.”
