One Lumia 930, Two Different Worlds

When you look around you, what do you see? Everyday life, I bet. For Red Bull photographer, Marcel Lämmerhirt, he sees things slightly differently.

“The world is a different place to what it was a generation or two ago. Things change, either on a small scale or a large one.

Take the glaciers, for example. Where there was once thick ice, there’s now rock and dirt.”

Marcel’s latest tale is one of Two Different Worlds, in which he shows people the differences between two eras – captured on a Lumia 930.

“I created a large glass box. Inside is where I visualise what the environment used to look like, and through the transparent walls you can see the contrast with today’s world.”

Marcel positioned this box on top of a glacier, or more accurately, where one used to be.

Inside the box is a man dressed in traditional skiing clothing, dating to the 1920s.

“Where we are now, there used to be snow and ice. Over long periods of time it’s easy for us to forget or not notice these changes.”

Using the Lumia 930 to document this installation made the shoot a simpler one.

“For this shoot, along with the Lumia 930, I took a tripod, some flashes and two LED lights. Plus the big glass box.”

“As a photographer, I always shoot in RAW DNG. With this option on the Lumia 930, I was able to capture more detail and deeper colours, resulting in amazing quality photos.”

“Nokia Camera was great. By changing the manual focus and getting down low to take a macro shot worked really well for some of my shots.”

“As did the reframing feature. With this, I could cut out all the unnecessary parts of the shot right on my phone.”
