Age of Empires: Castle Siege on Windows Phone
I’ll be honest, when I saw this title appear in the Windows Phone Store I got a little bit excited.

Age of EmpiresĀ®: Castle Siege is a new take on an old classic and is modernized for touch-screen devices.
When I think of classic games, this title is at the front of my memory. I started playing Age of Empires during the late 90s and many of its spin-offs in the following years.
For the uninitiated amongst you, Age of Empires is a real-time strategy game where you start at the bottom of the civilization ladder and work your way up by harvesting the lands, creating fearsome armies and researching technologies.
At the start of your epic journey, you must select which civilization you wish to play as, including the Britons, Teutons, Kievan Rus and others.
Then it’s up to you to make that civilization a truly great one.
Starting with a castle keep, you start to build the city around it. A market, a mill, an army camp, and an archer tower are all vital to an expanding civilisation.
In this version of Age of Empires, rather than sending out woodcutters to gather wood like in previous versions, the mill generates wood itself. So, the more mills you have, the more wood you’ll create, which in turn will enable you to expand the city.
From time to time, you’ll be attacked by rival civilizations, which are actually other players of the game trying to build their own empires.
Attacking other players is a great way to build up your resources as you raid their stores during any attack. Don’t forget, though, that your own stocks also get looted when you’re attacked–defense is key.
Another great part of the game is the ability to join or create alliances with other players. We’ve created our own here at Conversations, it’s called Lumia League: search for that within the game and join us.
Age of EmpiresĀ®: Castle Siege runs on Windows Phone 8 and above, including devices with 512 MB of RAM and requires you to sign into Xbox with a Microsoft account to play.
And because it’s a universal Windows app, you can play on your Lumia 1520 during your commute and pick up where you left off on your Surface Pro 3 when you get home.
