World Smile Day: Make someone happy

Today is World Smile Day®, a full 24 hours to share smiles and good acts of kindness around the world.

First established in 1999, World Smile Day was initiated by Harvey Ball, an American commercial artist who created the iconic Smiley Face in 1963.

Its goal was simple:

“Do an act of kindness. Help one person smile.”

Making someone smile isn’t as hard as you think and doing so can have a big impact on someone else’s day.

We encourage you this World Smile Day to make somebody smile. And if you can, capture it with your Lumia.

You could upload a selfie taken with your Lumia. Or video-record yourself doing something wonderful for a friend or stranger you pass on the street. Do it solo or try the challenge with friends.

Here are some events from previous World Smile Day events:

  • World’s largest human smiley face
  • Sidewalk chalk activities
  • Choral performances
  • Pie-eating contest

Whatever you decide to do, upload a photo or video of your happy creations and share them on social channels using the hashtags: #WorldSmileDay and #Lumia. We’ll be looking for your contributions.

Plus, share them with us in the comments below.

Good luck making somebody happy today!
