If you’ve got children, then you probably already know just how many great kids’ apps are in the Windows Phone Store just waiting to be discovered by your youngster. Kids Story Builder is one those gems that we’re absolutely positive your child will love, especially if he or she has a creative streak and a wild imagination.
Kids Story Builder, which won our app developer Imagin8 Mission contest this spring, does exactly what it says on the tin – lets kids build a story, using their own photos, text, and audio recordings. What’s more, they can personalize their tales and get as crazy and imaginative as they want. They can work on their stories alone, with friends, or together as a family, and stories can be saved and shared for later viewing (and giggling).
Needless to say, we can’t recommend Kids Story Builder enough! In fact, we love it so much that we’ve asked the app’s developer Jared Homes to share a few of his own thoughts about what makes Kids Story Builder such a special and engaging app for tykes everywhere. Here’s what he had to say.
1. It’s all about them
One of the great things about Kids Story Builder is that it allows kids to create a personalized story about the things in their life that matter most to them, such as their new younger sibling, their beloved stuffed animal, or their favorite park. As Jared says, “The stories can be all about them. Their actions, family, possessions and environment.” And for a child (and hey, even for us adults too), that can be a truly captivating and important experience.
2. They have the control
Kids often love to be in control, and Kids Story Builder gives them that and more: “They’re in control and will love flicking back and forth between pages. Also, with more interactivity than simply pushing play on a video, they’re ultimately more engaged.” The app is easy-to-use, but still has enough features to keep them entertained.
3.They get to tell their own stories
This seems like a no-brainer, but many people forget how important it is for children to be able to express themselves creatively in a variety of ways. As Jared put it, “It’s a great creative outlet. Kids can express themselves in many ways and learn that it’s not just adults that can create stories and media.” Your child will have the power to control what happens in their story, and the possibilities are endless!
4.You’ll get priceless voice recordings
Does anyone else wish they could have multi-media stories from their own childhood? We sure do! Not only do voice recordings add a little something extra to the story, but they’re like a scrapbook of childhood. “It adds so much power to the visuals, and those raw, yet focused recordings can easily capture personality and speech development that photos or birthday party videos etc. alone fail to achieve,” Jared says.
5.The end results are always good for a laugh
Kids are funny, and the things they come up with in those crazy kid brains are usually pretty entertaining. As Jared says, “It’s too easy to make hilarious pages. What can be funnier to a kid than in-jokes and toilet humour? My children still laugh when playing back nonsense they created more than two years ago.” So not only does Kids Story Builder give your child a way to make him or herself giggle endlessly, but it also gives them an opportunity to make others laugh!
