New #LumiaTips Vine: Hassle-free parking with NFC

Here’s a six-second lowdown on cash-free, contactless parking with your NFC-equipped Lumia.

Let’s face it, we’ve all been in this situation: We need to feed a parking meter, but we don’t have any change on hand. So we’re reduced to hunting under the car seats or rummaging through our glove compartment in hopes of finding a few errant quarters or dimes

Thankfully, Lumia owners can turn to the NFC connectivity within their smartphones to pay for metered parking with the recent abundance of PayByPhone “tap-and-pay” parking meters.

Right now, these cash-free parking meters can be found in the U.S., Canada, the U.K, France, Australia, and New Zealand.

As you can see in the Vine clip above, it’s straightforward to pay for parking. All you need to do is to hold your NFC-enabled Lumia phone (NFC-enabled Lumias are listed here) close to the meter’s NFC tag.

Once you’ve accepted the connection, you’ll be re-directed to the PayByPhone mobile website. There, you can then set up an account, enter your credit card information, and opt to get a receipt emailed to you or a text reminder that your meter is about to expire.

That means that if you decide to stay for dessert or do more shopping, you don’t have to worry about rushing back to your car before the meter runs out. Instead, simply add money with a few taps on your Lumia. Crisis averted!

Have you ever used NFC to pay for parking with your Lumia? Or do you have your own #LumiaTips you’d like to share with the world?
