Director’s Cut: New Movie Creator App

Create your own blockbuster film with the new Movie Creator video-editing app for Windows Phone 8.1.

Launching today, the free Movie Creator BETA app lets you create polished movies on your Lumia with Windows Phone 8.1 using up to 25 of your own smartphone videos, photos, cinemagraphs, Living Images. Movie Creator is also available on tablets running Windows 8.1.

You have complete control over your film. As movie director, you can edit the length of your footage and freely move the various clips to different places on your video timeline. You can also add text cards, captions and various filters, pan and zoom, and rotate.

Don’t like a clip? Delete it with a tap of your finger. Do you like a photo or video snippet so much that you want to see it twice? You can do that, too.

Your masterpieces can be as short as a few seconds or as long as a few hours. You can also add your own music from the Music app (non-DRM protected MP3 files only), and adjust the volume.

Experiment as much as you like: Your original videos and photos aren’t affected since the edits you make are only saved in your movie. And since Movie Creator automatically stores your project, if you don’t want to do all of your edits in one go, you can leave the app and return to your project later.

Cinematic Themes

Part of the beauty of Movie Creator is that while you have final say over your video, you can also use pre-installed themes that negate the hassle and hours usually needed to make a sharp, cohesive film. With themes, aspects such as scene transitions and filters come pre-configured, as does the music score.

That means you can make a five-minute movie in five minutes! Movie Creator comes with a range of themes, including two based on the DreamWorks Animation films “Madagascar” and Kung Fu Panda.” You can also purchase additional themes if you want even more variety.

When you’ve finished your movie, share with friends and family by tapping the “share” icon and wait for the five-star reviews to roll in!
