MixRadio and LINE make sweet music

Today, Microsoft has announced it has reached an agreement to sell the MixRadio service to LINE.

With coverage spanning 31 countries and millions of satisfied customers, MixRadio lets fans listen to music that is personalized just for them, by understanding their unique taste profile to serve up the tunes they will love. MixRadio provides people the opportunity to discover brand new music and rediscover old favourites.

LINE, the company behind the fastest growing mobile messenger app* in the world, gives MixRadio an excellent platform for expansion to provide a valid and appealing alternative to illegal downloading in many markets around the world.

Jyrki Rosenberg, Head of MixRadio, comments:

“We wanted MixRadio to continue to operate with a commitment to constant innovation and aspiration to deliver the best possible mobile-first experience to listeners. LINE  share this vision and our passion for simple, personal and fun user experiences in every way”.

He also clarifies, ‘In terms of the MixRadio app and service itself, MixRadio fans can expect the same level of commitment to bring a personalised music experience to Lumia smartphones, thanks to MixRadio’s recently launched recommendation engine.

The team behind MixRadio will remain headquartered in Bristol, UK. They will continue to deliver a great service for listeners and with the support of LINE begin to expand the service to even more music lovers worldwide.

The service has already begun an expansion into the home audio space and rapidly growing wearables markets, having been fully integrated into the newly launched Harman Kardon Omni wireless speakers and Adidas miCoach Smart Run watch.

The deal is expected to complete early 2015.

*Available in 230 countries, ranking first in the free app category in 60 countries.
