Ho, Ho, Ho: Fun Santa apps for your Lumia

Send cards and videos with Santa and track the jolly old elf as he makes his way around the world on Christmas Eve with these Windows Phone apps.

As a kid, I wondered how Santa and his sleigh full of gifts pulled by reindeer circumnavigated the globe in one short night. Did you ever wonder that as well? (And don’t tell me you never believed in Santa.)

Well, Microsoft has again partnered with the North American Aerospace Defense Command to create the NORAD Tracks Santa app for Windows Phone 8.1. Now, you can actually follow Santa as he drops off gifts to good boys and girls everywhere.

NORAD’s radar system, satellites, Santacams and even jet fighters are deployed to track Santa as he starts at the International Date Line in the Pacific Ocean and goes west until he’s delivered all of his presents.

“Even though Santa flies faster than any jet fighter–Santa actually slows down for us to escort him–all of these systems together provide NORAD with a very good continuous picture of his whereabouts,” according to the “Secret Santa Files” on the app.

The app includes a countdown to when Santa starts on his annual Christmas Eve journey, a game for the kids, and lots of fun information via the “Secret Santa Files.”

Talking Santa

Have you mailed your Christmas cards yet? Me, neither. The Talking Santa app–new for Windows Phone 8.1-lets you send funny, short digital holiday cards and videos to your friends and family.

The app is interactive and full of audio and animation. Tap on Santa’s sack of presents and he’ll open the bag and offer you a wrapped gift. Tap on the gift and out may spring an electric guitar, a bicycle, or something even better!

Tap on the milk and cookies icon on the bottom of the app screen to offer him sustenance (he’s got a long journey, after all) and tap the postcard icons to send digital cards. And if you’d like to send a video, tap on the video-recorder icon to record a short audio message and video.

Download these apps and let us know what you think! Are you in the holiday spirit yet?!
