Our top 10 new Windows Phone games of December

Now that the crazy days of December have come and gone, there’s no better time to take a look at some of the fantastic games that were released throughout the month.

Big name games, incredible indies, mind-boggling puzzles, or smashing strategy games – no matter what your favorite flavor of game, December had it all. With many of you busy wrapping gifts and chugging egg nog, it’s likely that you may have missed out on some of the month’s great new releases. But it’s OK, we’re on the case! Read on to find out our 10 picks for December’s best of the best.

Candy Crush Saga

Why we love it: As the ultimate time killing game, Candy Crush Saga probably doesn’t need much explanation for why we love it. You can take a sweet journey through Candy Kingdom, unlock Dreamworld, and challenge both yourself and friends in hundreds of levels in this mouth-watering game. It’s sure to keep your fingers busy and satisfy your sweet tooth.

Candy Crush

Polyganic

Why we love it: Polyganic is an award-winning dodge ‘em up with a twist: you control the obstacles rather than the polygon. It’s a little bit endless runner and a little bit old school arcade, with vibrant colors and a soundtrack that’ll get you even more into the game. Polyganic has a number of cool features, but we’ll let you discover them on your own.

Minecraft – Pocket Edition

Why we love it: Minecraft is one of those games that becomes impossible to put down once you get into it. Who doesn’t love to shape their own world by exploring and building anything imaginable? The pocket edition released last month for Windows Phones was joyful news for old fans of the game, and the perfect way for new players to discover their own architectural talents.

The Impossible Path

Why we love it: Interested in exercising your visual memory? The Impossible Path claims to be able to help you out. Aside from potential brain benefits, this game is a good bit of fun. You’re tasked with memorizing the placement of obstacles, and then you need to draw a path from start to end without touching the obstacles. The game starts out simple and progresses in difficulty as you play on, so give it some time before you label it as too easy.

Impossible Path

Zynga Poker – Texas Holdem

Why we love it: Texas Holdem is one of the most popular variants of poker around the world, and now you can finally play it on your Windows Phone with Zynga’s much loved version of the game. You can play casually, compete in tournaments, and even try for real world prizes while honing your card skills. You can bet on having a good time, even if the cards aren’t in your favor.

Cubes Stacker Factory

Why we love it: Cubes Stacker Factory is a fun and addictive game that employs physics (which, in this game, can be your best friend or your worst enemy). The main goal is to stack cubes, in whichever manner you think will work best. There are also 22 “successes” that you can achieve, such as placing the max number of pieces. If you enjoy physics-based games, Cubes Stacker Factory is worth a try.

Castle Clash

Why we love it: Castle Clash is a combat strategy game that lets you unleash your creativity and take over the world with an army of elves and robots at your side. The game has tons of things to do such as build your own castle, create an army, fight battles, and conquer team dungeons, so you can rest assured it’s anything but monotonous. Your empire is as strong as your creativity!

Pastry Paradise

Why we love it: We must still be dreaming of holiday treats, because we can’t get enough of all the delectable games released last month. Pastry Paradise is a delicious match-three puzzle game that will take you on a journey across maps like Gingerbread Gardens, chasing villains and defeating your rivals in chef bake-offs. Diagonal swapping is a bonus, but we’ll leave it up to you to decide whether you think Pastry Paradise or Candy Crush takes the cake.

Pastry Paradise

1 Dot

Why we love it: 1 Dot’s premise is simple – move one dot, avoiding the red dots and eating the blue dots. Purple and green dots mix things up a bit, letting you reduce the speed and eat all surrounding dots. Despite the easy rules, the game can get very challenging. You’ve been warned!

Tiny Troopers

Why we love it: If you want excellent visuals, intuitive touch gameplay, exciting missions, and humor in your games, Tiny Troopers is the game for you. Your three minuscule troopers will need your help to destroy the enemies throughout 30 missions in this narrative-driven game. Not only is it fun and engaging, but you can earn 20 Xbox achievements to boost your gamer score. Tiny Troopers hit 1 million downloads in 5 weeks for good reason, so be sure to give it a try.
