Protect your Surface in the wild – 3 ideas

Written By published February 2, 2015

We see Surface Pro 3 in all sorts of places – from coffee shops to classrooms, from conference rooms to Search and Rescue vehicles. And because it is so portable, light, and powerful, we take our Surfaces everywhere and use them just about anywhere, anytime – even during takeoff, now that you can use tablets on planes in the US. (Please check FAA and Airline rules for details).

King County 4×4 Search and Rescue in Washington State uses Surface Pro 3 mounted in-vehicle using a RAM Mount and mobile broadband access point.

What you may not know is that there are a number of options for you to protect your Surface so that you can get the most use (and enjoyment) out of it. Here are 3 ideas:

Tip 1: Make it rugged, like you

Whether you’re an architect working on-site, a busy mom with active kids, or a student that needs her device to survive the bumps and bruises of a backpack – we have the right accessories to go everywhere you do.

You can find many new Designed for Surface accessories online & at your local Microsoft Store. Check out these new cases from Urban Armor Gear (UAG) & Incipio:

UAG Accessories

The Urban Armor Gear (UAG) “Rouge” & “Scout” rugged cases for Surface Pro 3 are feather light but very tough – in fact, they are drop tested to MIL STD (Military Standard) 810G. They feature a sleek design that incorporates a multi-position kickstand & full compatibility with the Surface Pro 3 Type Cover.

Incipio Accessories

From the rugged & rotatable Capture case to the Hilson Zipper Folio and the modern Roosevelt Folio, Incipio has a broad range of Surface accessories, in a variety of colors & styles to meet your needs.

Tip 2: Don’t worry about ‘what if’… accidents happen and you can be prepared

As careful as we try to be, sometimes accidents happen. Recently my 5 year old son dropped my Surface 2 while carrying it down the stairs to our basement playroom. As it tumbled down the stairs, my wife and I collectively held our breath while my son innocently tried to pass the blame for the drop on his older brother.

While the Surface survived the fall, I was reminded that we offer the Microsoft Complete plan. It includes extended warranty, accidental damage protection and software support for 2 years total. It can kid-proof your Surface. Microsoft Complete is available for purchase via Microsoft Stores, details here.

Tip 3: Shield your Surface

After the stairs incident, I realized that I wanted a little extra protection for the screen for my Surface Pro 3 (which I use instead of a laptop for work and often travel with). I purchased one of our new Screen Protectors, which provides protection from scratches and chips. It’s really easy to install. The touch screen and Surface Pen still work great, and I now have a little more peace of mind. You can find the Screen Protector for Surface Pro 3 at all stores where Surface is sold.

In addition to the above examples, we have a ton of great options available for you to protect your Surface, including hard shell cases and folios from Maroo, a variety of sleeves & bags from Brenthaven, and even new premium fashion designs from Kate Spade. You can find even more accessories here or by visiting your neighborhood store where Surface is sold.

Surface has always been about letting you be productive wherever you are – and for most of us that occasionally means places where bumps and scratches can happen – so we and our partners around the world are proud to build great accessories to keep you going.
