Our 5 favourite new Windows Phone apps of the week

Another week, another fantastic round-up of apps fresh from the Windows Phone Store that are sure to dazzle and amaze.

And we’re proud to say we indeed have an amazing selection of apps and updates for our fellow app lovers this week. Four shiny new apps that are each geared towards helping you get things done, and an anticipated update that many have been hoping to see. Read on to find out what they are and prepare for some heavy downloading.

SquadWatch

What is it: a location-sharing app

Why we love it: SquadWatch is one of the latest releases from the experimental tinkering hotspot Microsoft Garage. With this app, you can see where the people in your squad are and what they’re doing. It’s intended to be used within close groups such as family and good friends, and uses a friending system that only shows your location to invited people.

Who it’s perfect for: friends and family that like to keep track of one another

SquadWatch

Readly

What is it: official app for Readly magazine subscription service

Why we love it: Readly gives you access to 800+ magazines, such as Rolling Stone, Popular Science and Women’s Health, for the fair price of $9.99 per month (the app itself is free). You can access 10,000+ issues, including back issues, with up to 5 devices on the same account. Other features include a searchable database, offline reading, clickable links, and bookmarking. Readly lets you test the service before buying with a 14 day trial, so give it a try.

Aeries

What is it: a Twitter client

Why we love it: Aeries is a Windows Phone exclusive that’s just come out of beta, and is a great choice for Twitter users. The app is designed to make using Twitter as easy as possible, with a range of functions that do just that. For example, it lets you block things such as tweets containing certain text (regex support included), save your position in your timelines, customize your design, and create drafts and lists. The design is clean with an intuitive UI, and well worth the current $4.49 price tag.

LINE (update)

What is it: a messenger app

Why we love it: LINE is a free messaging app that lets you exchange messages, photos, videos, voice messages, and location with friends and family. Its latest update has brought a few new features that LINE users have been hoping for, specifically Timeline, which lets you share things with your friends and see what they’re sharing. Other new features include Groups for easier group communication and French language support.

Who it’s perfect for: anyone looking for a good messaging app

Join Conference

What is it: a conference call app

Why we love it: Join Conference, another Microsoft Garage project, lets you dial into conference calls and skip the steps that are usually required such as needing to switch to the calendar app, put in a PIN code, make the call, and so on. You can join by hitting one button instead, and it should work with all conference systems.

Who it’s perfect for: people tired of inputing tons of info to join a conference call
