How to have a relaxing day with Lumia

Taking the day off? Find bliss inside your Windows Phone.

You hit “snooze” on the alarm and fall back into your pillow. “This is it, I’m taking a ‘me’ day,” you think to yourself.

You’re not leaving your home. You may not even leave your bed.

Luckily, you don’t have to. With Lumia at your command, rest and relaxation is available anytime and anywhere you need it.

Here are a few ways to chill from the comfort of your bed or couch.

Disconnect from the outside world

Go into your Lumia’s system settings and enable Quiet Hours to turn off notifications and calls. Contacts in your inner circle can still get through in case of an emergency, but everyone else will be put on hold. Lumia can even text contacts back to let them know you’re busy.

De-stress

Set a relaxing mood with soothing ambient sound with these Windows Phone apps: The free Ambient Audio allows you to choose from 13 different calming tracks ranging from ocean waves to thunderstorms to the otherworldly hum of a supernova.

For more personalization, try the Relax Melodies app (also free). It lets you assemble a custom track from 41 unique sounds, including waterfall, chirping birds, flute, and even the purring of a cat.

Meditate

To really focus on relaxation, try meditation. If it seems difficult to get into, buy The Mindfulness App ($2.99) to help guide you through the process and set reminders for when to meditate.

This might require you getting out of your bed and onto the floor, but yoga is an excellent way of reaching inner peace. The free Yoga Trainer app gives you tips and instruction on poses to help you relax or even relieve a backache or tight legs and ankles.

Enrich your mind

Relax your brain with a stress-relieving game such as Sudoku. Microsoft’s free version has Xbox Live support in case you’re feeling a little competitive.

For a more thoughtful experience, enjoy one of more than a million eBooks on the free Amazon Kindle app for Windows Phone.

Or, if you feel like zoning out instead, watch television. Lumia’s built-in Mobile TV app on AT&T carriers in the U.S. gives you access (with a subscription) to live TV shows from select networks and full video-on-demand TV show episodes such as “Family Guy,” “Bones,” and “Arrested Development.” My personal favorite is the Saturday Morning TV channel that runs classic cartoons from the 70s and 80s.

Netflix is the world’s leading subscription service for watching TV and movies. This free app only works with a subscription, but gives you access to Netflix’s entire library of on-demand streaming content.

Shop

When all else fails, engage in some retail therapy. Choose from millions of products available from the free Amazon app right from the comfort of your Lumia and have them delivered overnight–or in some areas, the same day.

eBay lets you buy or sell in the world’s largest marketplace. This free app will send you into shopping bliss … or a buying frenzy.

Nourishment

Okay, you’ve slept, meditated, practiced yoga, played games, read, watched TV and movies, and shopped. Now, it’s time to eat.

Enjoy the ultimate relaxation food–pizza. The free Domino’s Pizza app in the U.S. lets you build your own unique creation and have it delivered right to your door. For the UK and Ireland, try this free Domino’s Pizza app instead. When ordering in India, use this one.

You’ll probably have to get out of bed at this point, but pizza is worth it, right?
