One of our favorite benefits of owning a smartphone is all the free podcast content available for our listening (and sometimes viewing) pleasure.
For the uninitiated, podcasts are like radio programs that you can download and listen to whenever you want. Topics can range from news to pop culture to finance to…well, just about anything.
To help bring you the best podcasts available on your Lumia, Conversations is launching Podcast Spotlight, a regular round-up of some of our favorites in each category.
First up: Comedy. From giggles to guffaws, these are the podcasts that most tickle our funny bones.
An “audio newspaper for a visual world,” The Bugle is hosted by John Oliver (“The Daily Show,” “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver”) and comedian Andy Zaltzman. The duo satirizes the weekly news with impeccable wit and British sensibility.

Hosted by director Kevin Smith and actor/comedian Ralph Garman, this uproariously juvenile and often profane show sets its sights on Hollywood every week. Nothing is off-limits when these two take the stage for a mix of comedy bits, news, and lots of impressions.
NPR’s long-running weekly radio quiz program is funny as ever as a podcast. Test your knowledge against the show’s panel of celebrities as they discuss the week’s events. It’s one of those shows that makes you think as it makes you laugh.
Each week, comedian Marc Maron interviews a different comedian. The results can be thought-provoking or shocking as he picks the brains of the world’s leading comics, but they’re also always hilarious.
Comedian and TV personality Chris Hardwick heads up this decidedly nerdy podcast covering the world of geek and celebrity. Each week he and his cohorts interview different celebrities and riff on nerd culture.
How to download a podcast: Open the built-in Podcasts app on your Windows Phone 8.1 and swipe to the Get Podcasts tab. Enter the name of the podcast to search. For phones running an older OS, download an app such as Podcasts! (free) or Podcast Lounge ($2.99).
