Our 5 favourite new Windows Phone apps of the week

It’s a great time to be a Lumia lover. Things just keep better and better, with tons of exciting changes coming in the future and hot new apps and updates steadily rolling into the Windows Phone Store.

We think you’ll be nodding in agreement after taking a look at our choices for this week’s top five apps. We’ve got a great mix of brand new apps and oldies that have been completely rehashed to be better than new. Read on to find out what they are!

Expedia Hotels, Flights, Cars & Activities

What is it: the official new app for travel booker Expedia

Why we love it: After listening to customer feedback, Expedia has released a revamped app that’s better than ever, going from a web wrapper to a full-featured native app. Now you can easily book flights, hotels, and cars while on the go, with a selection of features that take planning your trip to the next level. According to Expedia, their app is the only travel app for Windows Phone that “integrates rental cars and vacation packages.” There’s also handy Live Tile support that lets you track your itinerary on your Start Screen, as well as Cortana support for quicker searching.

SIMSme

What is it: a secure messaging system

Why we love it: SIMSme, released by the German postal service, is a free app that provides encrypted messaging. Features include self-destructing messages that you can either set an expiration date for or make available for a specified period of time, voicemail, and multimedia support including photos, videos, locations, and contacts.

MLB At Bat

What is it: the official app of Major League Baseball

Why we love it: At Bat was pulled from the Store not that long ago with no plans for updates for the 2015 season. Luckily for baseball fans, plans change and At Bat is back and ready to hit a home run in 2015. Features include push notifications for breaking news, live scores, pinnable teams, and Live Tiles. Subscribers can watch games and more, so check it out if you’re a baseball fan.

Circle Stopwatch

What is it: a simple but useful stopwatch app

Why we love it: You never know when you might need to time something. Circle Stopwatch is a great choice for an easy-to-use and minimalistic stopwatch that has just the right amount of features, keeping things simple while still doing exactly what you need it to do. All it takes is a tap on the circle to start or stop the timer. The app can run in the background until you’re ready to stop it, and can be pinned with a nice transparent tile to your Start screen for quick access. You can also record lap times. Circle Stopwatch is free and without ads.

Trakter

What is it: an app for tracking TV shows

Why we love it: There are so many great shows on TV these days that it can be hard to keep track of them all. Trakter can help you out by tracking your shows through integration with Trakt.tv. With Trakter, there is no local database so there are no manual imports/exports and it is universal between devices. Features include shows and movies lists, episode information such as when the next one airs or which ones you’ve missed, and more. Trakter is free with the option to upgrade for additional features.
