Our 5 favourite new Windows Phone apps of the week

Are you ready to start your summer in style? We’ve got you covered, with five new apps from the Windows Phone Store to give you a hand.

Whether you want to kick back with your favorite summer shows, grow the perfect summer beard, or get your abs in tip-top shape for beach season, this week’s selection of apps are here to help you out. Read on to find out which ones we’ve chosen.

Yidio

What is it: a video aggregator

Why we love it: Yidio is a free app that helps you track your favorite shows across multiple platforms and providers and figure out where to watch them. You can search for your shows across 16 sources, such as Netflix, Hulu Plus, and Comedy Central, or browse to discover new shows. The app compares prices, telling you whether your shows are available for free, paid, or with a service subscription, and lets you schedule for viewing.

TRAINR (update)

What is it: a game-changing fitness application for the Microsoft Band

Why we love it: There are plenty of fitness apps out there but this is one of our favs. TRAINR automatically tracks your repetitions and exercises. Frompush-ups, to pull-ups, jumping jacks, jogging, and even yoga poses, with this new update  Microsoft Band will now automatically recognize your exercise movements when you’re working out with the app. It also now includes Four multi-day routines based on high intensity interval training, designed by top LA trainers to keep you on track and get you in shape. Plus, 21 bodyweight and dumbbell based exercises for your upper body, lower body, and core.

Beardify

What is it: a face-editing app to give yourself a luscious beard

Why we love it: Beardify isn’t brand spanking new, but this fun app is free from June 1 — June 15, giving you the opportunity to grow the beard of your dreams in seconds. You can take a selfie on the spot or choose one from your camera or OneDrive, and then select your new beard from a variety of styles such as the Zappa, Soul Patch, or Hollywoodian (I went with the classic Colonel, as you can see below). Other cool features include animations, videos, and effects.

Minecraft – Pocket Edition (update)

What is it: a game about breaking and placing blocks

Why we love it: Anything that makes one of the world’s most addictive games even better has got to be a good thing. And this latest update, which makes creating, building, and exploring in Minecraft even more fun, totally fits the bill. Not only do you get new skins, which allow you to change the appearance of your Minecraft character, there are now even boats with room for two. What’s more, while you’re on the boat, you can throw things as varied as snowballs and eggs. On top of this, there’s a new World Edit screen so you can rename worlds and change game modes. Plus, it’s now available in 14 languages. Now where are my blocks?

Who it’s perfect for: builders and gamers
