Dhruv Visvanath makes music with the Lumia 640 XL
How does this singer and songwriter use his Lumia 640 XL to compose music?
Dhruv Visvanath started to play music at age seven. Now 23 years old, he’s been playing the guitar for 10 years and has been testing his scratch tracks for his latest album on his Lumia.
“I started playing music because I was bad at telling people stories,” he said. “I wanted to make stories out of music, and that’s what I’ve been trying to do ever since!”
An avid Lumia user, Dhruv can’t stop raving about his latest phone, the Lumia 640 XL. We caught up with the talented musician to get his story.
How does your Lumia help you compose tunes?
It helps me a lot; I use my Lumia 640 XL to record ideas and play them back. I write my lyrics on OneNote, and share recordings with my band using OneDrive.
I have also recorded a mock performance on my Lumia. Check this one.
What makes the Lumia 640 XL special?
I love the size of the screen. I have big hands and it is so welcoming to hold. I’ve owned the Lumia 820 and Lumia 1520, but I think the Lumia 640XL is the perfect size. Its front-facing camera makes clicking selfies so easy.
How do you use your Lumia 640 XL day to day?
I Skype with my manager and e-mail him to get daily status updates on our current projects. I also manage my invoices and balance sheets.
I love taking pictures, listening to the latest mixes on MixRadio and unwind by watching my favorite TV shows on the phone. My Lumia helps get everything ready!
How do you put its 5.7″ screen to use?
I love the start screen on Lumia 640 XL and group my news tiles, social, video, shopping and even my maps together.
When I need to know what’s happening in the world, I just open the news folder and check NDTV or Onefootball, which helps me track Chelsea.
I am mostly out of my house and the taxi apps help me get back on time. I also love tile art! My friend made a logo for me, which I have put up as tile art and it looks slick!
Lastly, there are apps that let me compose on the go such as Guitar Tuner and Synth.
What are the top five apps you would recommend to budding guitarists?
First, MeeDJ is a wonderful mixing app, it’s very similar to programs like Traktor but on the phone, it’s very cool!
Second, MetroOSC allows you to use your phone as a MIDI controller with your digital audio workstation. A must-have if you want to produce and perform live.
Third, Perfect Recorder is a must to get the best possible recordings if you can’t take your studio everywhere!
Fourth, OneNote is the best app to sync your lyrics as well as small audio recordings or parts of songs.
Finally, OneDrive turns your phone into the ultimate storage machine! I save images for my artwork for songs, and scratch tracks to be shared with people. It really helps to have all these things on your phone!
Any tips for budding musicians?
Stay motivated and always improve on yesterday. Involve your family in your creative process. Lastly, if you’re good at something, never do it for free!
What do you do in your spare time, besides thinking about the next tune?
I love playing on the Xbox One. FIFA, Destiny and Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor are my current favorites! I also play Rayman Jungle Run on my Lumia 640 XL.
Thanks for talking to us, Dhruv.
