Shubham Kumar shoots puddlegrams with the Lumia 640 XL
An animation and game-design student by day and a puddlegram expert by night, the life of Shubham Kumar revolves around his Lumia 640 XL.
Shubham Kumar’s father gave him his first Lumia three years ago. He hasn’t looked back since.
“Lumia 520 was my first smartphone and it completely changed my life as I discovered photography with it,” he said.
“Now, I click a lot of photos on my Lumia 640 XL for my Instagram page. I am in love with my Lumia 640 XL and recommend it to all my friends.”
Shubham has been making full use of the phone’s 13-megapixel camera with ZEISS optics and dynamic flash to click amazing puddlegrams and macro photos. He’s fascinated by the phone’s design and speed, adding, “Everyone knows that Windows Phone has the fastest operating system.”
Q: How do you use your Lumia 640 XL day to day?
My Lumia 640 XL helps me a lot with my studies and I love to read e-books and watch related videos for my various projects. I love its large HD screen. It has also increased my productivity as the Office suite of apps let me edit and create my assignments on my Lumia, whether I am on a bus or a train and away from my laptop. Everything is at my fingertips always!
Q: How do you put its 5.7-inch screen to use?
I have got addicted to playing games and watching movies. I enjoy Asphalt 8 : Airborne, GT Racing 2: The Real Car Experience, Overkill 3 and Six-Guns on my phone.
Q: What is a puddlegram?
Puddlegram is a style of photography in which we shoot things with their reflection on water. I love clicking puddles on my Lumia and the best time for shooting puddles is after rain.
Q: How do you shoot a puddlegram?
Before I start shooting, I visualize the scene in my head and frame it. Later on, I give directions to my friends and they pose for me.

Q: Share some tips on how to shoot puddlegrams.
First, make sure there is a visible source of light, so that when you click your puddle, it’s clearly seen.
Second, try the rule of thirds or [use] crosshairs bracketing in the Lumia Camera app. Composing your photo is key, as it helps in achieving symmetry.
Lastly, make full use of post-processing and edit your photos creatively. I like to create illusions with my puddles and I prefer flipping the image or cropping it.
Q: What are the top five Windows Phone apps you would recommend to budding photographers?
For clicking photos, I only trust the Lumia Camera app as it is fast and has manual controls.
For editing, I suggest Fantasia Painter, Fhotoroom, 4blendHDR and Lumia Creative Studio.
Q: What do you do in your spare time besides thinking about your next shot?
I also like sketching and singing.
Thanks a lot for talking to us, Shubham.
