GLOBALSocial Media Week, the global conference running in 12 cities around the world, kicks off on Monday. Nokia is once again the headline sponsor of the event, which will see each city running an array of social media activity, connecting people to each other and their favourite brands. It’s all about Connecting People, see?

Social networks such as Twitter, Facebook, and even YouTube are not only a great place to share news with your nearest and dearest, they are also great for keeping up-to-date on what’s happening right now, in different parts of the world. Social networks can have a role in changing political and social values and can also change the future of an entire country. It’s a powerful tool for a modern civilisation.

One of the reasons social networks are popular, is that you can sit at your computer and chat with people online, wherever you want and whenever you want and chances are, somebody is doing the same thing as you. Social Media Week, however, encourages people to go to live events and meet like-minded people.

If you want to take part in any of these activities, or to even watch from the comfort of your home, you can find all the event details at the Social Media Week Live page. Additionally, you can use Social Media Week RealTime to keep an eye on any event you’re interested in, using specially created hashtags.

Don’t forget to fire up your Twitter profile and follow @socialmediaweek and use the hashtag #NokiaConnects when talking about any of next week’s events. Plus there’s a Social Media Week Facebook page, too.

Are you planning on connecting with others? What events will you be attending and why? Use the comments box below and let us know!
