PORTLAND, OR, United States – Now that the news about the Nokia Lumia line of Windows Phone has hit the street, the first reactions are starting to come in. There are quite a few US-based mobile bloggers and press members that made the trip and it has been interesting to read their viewpoints, this morning.

Let’s take a trip around the blogosphere and explore the conversations taking place:

Writing at Engadget, Zach Honig goes hands on with the Nokia Lumia 800 and lauds the phone’s stunning design and construction. Zach goes on to talk about the ports for headphones, SIM and other capabilities and how they’re so well integrated into the phone that, “you barely know they’re there”.

Zach goes on to say:

There’s the same eight megapixel camera as we saw on the N9, complete with f/2.2 aperture lens and 720p HD video with continuous autofocus. Overall the Lumia 800 looks quite incredible — this is some impressive hardware — but will Nokia’s latest flagship help drive some serious Windows Mobile market share? We shouldn’t have to wait long to find out.

Writing at CNET News.com, Bonnie Cha introduces the new Lumia 710 and 800 phones, and speaks of the phones excellent camera, bright display and also points out that buyers will be given 25GB of free space on Microsoft’s SkyDrive cloud-based service.

Going beyond hardware, Bonnie talks about how the new phones will have custom software to add to the Nokia Windows Phone experience including Nokia Drive, ESPN Sports Hub and Nokia Music and Mix Radio – the free music-streaming service.

Speaking specifically about the camera itself, Bonnie says:

It comes with an 8-megapixel camera with an f/2.2 Carl Zeiss Tessar lens. It’s capable of capturing 720p HD video at 30fps, and the camera app offers various editing options, such as red-eye reduction, motion blur reduction, and white balance controls, and includes an instant-share feature.

Christina Warren of Mashable, thinks that Windows Phone finally has a credible device in the portfolio. Christina cites the Lumia 800’s innovative design and beautiful feel. Because of “attention to detail”, the display is super vibrant showing blacker blacks and vibrant color.

In her words:

…but the screen that Nokia is using for the Lumia 800 is a thing of beauty.Using Nokia’s own version of Super AMOLED Plus, the blacks were black, the colors vibrant and text a joy to read. Beyond that, the feel of the screen itself was smooth and responsive.

Speaking about the applications that help set the Lumia line apart, Marin Perez of IntoMobile highlights the on board navigation, Music and ESPN Sports Hub applications. For those who are already familiar with Nokia Maps, Nokia Drive will bring very useful turn-by-turn navigation to Windows Phone on the Lumia 800.

Perez thinks sports fans will be enticed by the ESPN Sports Hub application and it’s ability to deliver stats, scores and news. You can even pin your favorite team or league to the start screen, which I would find very useful as American college football season is currently under way.
