Nokia Shorts and the Edinburgh Film Festival

The Nokia Shorts Awards took place at the Edinburgh Film Festival on Saturday night. Our finalist had flown in from locations across the globe and a crowd of over 300 people watched the 8 short films in anticipation wondering who would be named the Nokia Shorts 2011 winner.

It certainly was a difficult choice – the level of talent was overwhelming, with each finalist proving they certainly deserved the $5000 it took to create their vision filming on two, Nokia N8s. Each finalist took a very different approach to their short film – delighting the audience with a range of cinematic expression from science fiction to comedy and one child’s touching adventure with a cardboard box.

However, there could only be one winner and James Griffiths emerged triumphant – with his production of Splitscreen: A Love Story. Cleverly filmed on 2 N8s – one in Paris, one in New York, it places the two screens together to tell a story of two lovers that ultimately intertwines.

If you’d like to see the Shorts for yourself and get to know a little bit more about the finalists – tune back in tomorrow where we’ll send the official Vimeo link and present a feature on our winner – any questions you’d like to ask him?
