The Force may be with us now, but in 1977 when Star Wars was released nobody believed it would become the stuff of movie legend. In fact, when director George Lucas approached Universal Studios with the idea, four years earlier, they turned him down flat. His script, which originally included the young Luke Starkiller, was even dismissed by those who worked on it.
