Sony announces new VAIO S Series PC with 15-inch HD display

Today Sony has revealed a new VAIO S Series Windows PC (VAIO SE) with a 15.5-inch full-on 1080p HD display. The VAIO S Series has a slim and light design with an optional sheet battery for impressive battery life (up to 12 hours!). Ben the PC Guy has talked about the VAIO S Series a few times (the VAIO SB and VAIO SA).

SE Series - 02

The new 15.5-inch model is under 1-inch thick and comes in 2 colors – “jet black” or “platinum silver” – and is designed with magnesium and aluminum materials for lightness as it only weighs 4.4 pounds. It has a backlit keyboard (with 10-key numeric pad) too. The new VAIO S model will be available with up to a second generation Intel Core i7 processor and select models will have solid-state drives with Quad RAID 0 technology up to 1TB. For the HD performance, you’ll find the AMD Radeon HD 6630 (on select models) inside which will of course give you awesome HD performance but also support for DirectX 11 for you gamers out there. To maximize battery life, you can also switch to the Intel HD Graphics as the new VAIO S model has “hybrid graphics”. But wait… there’s more! It also has a Blu-ray drive (select models) and a HD webcam!

The new VAIO S Series 15.5-inch Windows PC will be available in October here on Sony’s website starting at about $1,000 (optional battery $150 additional). And Sony has the 13.3-inch VAIO S Series with second generation Intel Core processors also hitting in October too!
