I have often wondered to myself, “what is it about Lenovo PCs?” They are as popular at Microsoft as jeans and a t-shirt, and prior to two weeks ago I did not understand why. I knew that those who had them absolutely loved them, (we have frequent conversations about what PC we use here in Redmond), but I never had the opportunity to use one and see for myself – until now.
For the past two weeks I have been using a brand new Lenovo ThinkPad X230. I was very excited to get the laptop before it hits the shelves and is available for purchase (you will be able to get your hands on it in early June) and anxious to see if I would love it as much as my other coworkers love their Lenovos. From the moment that I took it out of the box, I have been impressed.
The first thing that caught my attention was the ThinkPad X230’s size – it’s super small and light. At Microsoft, we carry our laptops everywhere, so having a PC that is easy to tote around is a must have for me and the ThinkPad X230 passed my tests with flying colors. The laptop is sleek and durable with a 12.5-inch display and weighs less than three pounds. I have been walking with it under my arm around the office, and fitting it easily in my bag at the end of the day. The ThinkPad X230 also offers 4G LTE support for ultra-fast wireless connectivity, which I think makes it a great laptop to use while traveling or perfect for someone who spends a lot of time working away from the office.
There is a myth out there that you can’t use a PC right out of the box. The ThinkPad X230 is yet another example of how that is very far from the truth. Within minutes of pressing the power button to begin the initial set up, the X230 was ready to go. This ThinkPad X230 comes preloaded with Windows 7 Professional, and setting up my connection to the internet was easy. Before I knew it, this PC was really starting to feel like my own.
With its portability and ease of use, I think that this PC would be a great choice for small business professionals. It is a high quality, reliable, laptop designed to perform any task in the office or on-the-go. Security is important and with Windows 7 Professional included alongside Lenovo’s ThinkVantage software for manageability and security you get everything you need to help protect against malware, viruses, and lost data.
I’ve spent a lot of quality time with the ThinkPad X230. It is a rock solid laptop that is great to use. As someone who spends much of their day writing, I found the precision keyboard (I have the backlit option) very comfortable because of the size and spacing of the keys. I also really appreciated Lenovo’s battery – it’s rated at up to eight hours and I love how the battery icon displays exactly how much time is left before the need to charge up again.
