One of the coolest features of the new Windows Phone is Kid’s Corner, which gives kids a fun way to use your smartphone while keeping them from messing with your settings or accidentally texting your boss. In fact, Kid’s Corner is so effective that many kids start thinking of it as their phone, instead of their parents’.
To celebrate this feature, we’re holding the first ever Windows Phone Kid’s Art contest. We’re asking your kids to create a drawing that answers the following question: “What do you wish your Windows Phone could do? How do you imagine yourself, your family, and others using your phone?”
We will select four winners to have their artwork recreated and painted realistically by professional artist Dave DeVries. Dave DeVries is the creator of The Monster Engine, and his unique and compelling paintings of children’s art have appeared on TV and all over the web.
To give you an idea of what this will look like, KC Lemson, Program Manager on the Windows Phone team, asked her kids Jared and Audrey to create a drawing featuring Windows Phone, which DeVries then illustrated in his own style. Here’s how KC described the story behind the original drawing:
One sketch shows an alien attacking a town, and a Windows Phone with lasers coming out of it that is attacking the alien. The other drawing shows a superhero (“mick row man” – her code for “Microsoft man”) holding a Windows Phone, triumphant after winning against the alien.
Interested in having your child’s art immortalized in this way? Have your child (12 years of age or younger) color, draw, or paint a picture of a Windows Phone in use, and send it to us by 11:59 PM PST on March 8th, 2013. You can either e-mail a high-res scan/photo of the drawing to us at [email protected] (no more than 8 MB) with subject line “Kid’s Art Entry”, or send in a hard copy to ATTN: Windows Phone Kid’s Art, 500 Washington St., Suite 200, San Francisco, CA 94111. Please also include your child’s name, age, and your name and email address, as well as the story that went behind the drawing. We will not be able to return submissions. Four drawings will be selected and the winners will receive their very own digital file of the recreated artwork. The original drawings and recreations will also be featured on our online properties, including our website, our newsletter, our blog, and our Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest pages. In addition, the recreations will be available to download as wallpapers for lock screens or Kid’s Corner through our Windows Phone Insider App.
