3 apps for finding great new Windows Phone apps

Figuring out what apps are worth your time or money is one of toughest challenges faced by any smartphone owner. Even with the Windows Phone Store’s handy browsing filters (new, highly rated, popular) at my disposal, the sheer number of options can sometimes feel overwhelming. I’m constantly thinking: What’s good? What’s fun? What’s useful? What hidden gem have I missed?

This week Nokia made that quest easier by launching App Social Beta, a free and fun new app exclusively for Lumia owners with Windows Phone 8. The app—formerly known as App Highlights—lets people create their own app lists and vote on their favorites, essentially solving the what-app-should-I-download problem through crowdsourcing. Download it now. The app lets you follow friends and like-minded curators, and also features Nokia-curated lists of top apps. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

But that’s not the only app that can help you find great apps to download. Another one of my favorites is the official Windows Phone Central ($0.99) app, which features news and app reviews from a crack team of Windows Phone enthusiasts. Microsoft also has something to offer here. Our free Windows Phone Insider app offers plenty of download suggestions—plus a feed from the Windows Phone blog, our Facebook site and more.
