Windows Themes: Ten new themes to celebrate Windows 8.1

Today’s Personalization Gallery blog post is brought to you by the letters A, B, C, and E, and the number 10.

A is for Animals, and I am thrilled to bring you a brand-new panoramic theme featuring dramatic portraits of many different species in their natural habitats. This set of sweeping scenes is designed to smoothly span dual monitors in Windows 8.1 (or Windows 8, if you haven’t installed the update yet).

B is for Beaches, and we have two beautiful new themes to take your desktop on a vicarious seaside vacation. Glowing Beaches showcases the sometimes subtle, sometimes bold tints of sunrise and sunset, in luminous hues of azure, rose, and gold.

Our other new beach theme, Sunny Shores, is almost as good as basking in the noonday sun on a warm sandy beach, or swimming in beautifully clear water – all without risking a painful sunburn.

B is also for Birds, and we have two new themes that feature the amazing nature photography of husband-and-wife team Jessica Lee and Bryan Matthew. Their first theme focuses on Small Birds, such as goldfinches, juncos, hummingbirds, sparrows, chickadees, and more.

Their other new theme provides a peek into the lives of great gray owls, snowy owls, bald eagles, and other Large Birds.

Moving right along with the alphabet, our next letter is C, and C is for Cars. We know that the auto enthusiasts among you have been waiting patiently for more car themes, so we went all-out to bring you two cool new car themes.

The first one is a celebration of Classic Sports Cars, including a 1955 Aston Martin, ’56 Mercedes-Benz, ’58 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, the ‘60 Corvette, ’64 Porsche, and many more. We also included some newer but equally stunning examples, like the 2004 Ferrari Enzo and the McClaren F1. This is a big theme, showcasing 19 sleekly beautiful models.

In case your preference is for Muscle Cars, our next new theme includes high-performance heavyweights such as the 1964 Ford Mustang, ‘67 Chevy Camaro, ‘65 Pontiac GTO, ‘70 Plymouth Road Runner, ‘68 Dodge Charger, ‘68 Chevy Chevelle, and more.

The letter C is also for Color. For those who prefer abstract backgrounds, our new Color Splash theme decorates your desktop with cheerful explosions of colored water, paint, dye, powder, and sand.

Skipping over D, we come to the letter E, for Europe. In my last post I introduced you to the photography of Ingo Scholtes in his Scenic Europe theme, which is a whirlwind virtual tour through some of the loveliest cityscapes and landscapes in Switzerland, France, the UK, Germany, Sweden, and Sardinia. Now we’re pleased to bring you a follow-up in Scenic Europe 2.

E is also for the End of today’s roundup of new themes, and our tenth and final new theme is Ryse: Son of Rome, which brings the gritty world of the hotly-anticipated new Xbox One game to your Windows desktop.

If you have an older version of Windows that can’t use themes, or if you prefer to use a single image, don’t despair – we have new desktop décor for you too. Here are just a few of our new wallpapers.
