Nokia announces the Lumia 2520 Windows tablet at Nokia World

Today at Nokia World, Nokia has announced their new 10.1-inch Lumia 2520 Windows tablet – a perfect companion for your Lumia Windows Phone. With the Lumia 2520, you can have a tablet that is always with you during the day and always connected.

On the outside, the Lumia 2520 uses the same great Lumia design we’ve seen with Nokia’s Windows Phones. It’ll come in a variety of awesome colors such as red and white in a glossy finish, and cyan and black in a matte finish. Its 10.1-inch 1080p display features Corning Gorilla Glass 2 with almost 180 degree viewing angles allowing a person right next to you to see your screen without getting in your face. The display on the Lumia 2520 also provides a peak brightness of 650 nits with reflectance of less than 6% for the best outdoor reading experience. On the inside, the Lumia 2520 comes powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset with built in high-speed LTE connectivity. The Lumia 2520 has a 6.7 megapixel rear camera with 1.9 aperture, providing great low light images and a 2 megapixel front-facing camera. Nokia is including ZEISS optics in the Lumia 2520 and special Nokia imaging algorithms to extend the amazing camera experience seen on its phones into their tablet.

A special wrap-around cover with a built-in keyboard and track pad – called the Nokia Power Keyboard – will also be available for the Lumia 2520. With the Nokia Power Keyboard, you get up to five extra hours of battery life and two USB ports.

The Lumia 2520 will also come with a number of unique software experiences from Nokia – exclusive to the Lumia family of devices:

  • Nokia Storyteller: Nokia Storyteller will automatically compile your pictures from Facebook, SkyDrive, Picasa, Flickr and even your Lumia smartphone – into a single timeline. With the Lumia Share app will allow your Lumia smartphone to interact with your Lumia 2520 and view all your images in Storyteller, connecting via NFC. You can zoom out to a map for details about the physical surrounding of stories around your pictures.
  • Nokia Video Director: Nokia Video Director lets you do advanced video editing of videos captured on both the Nokia Lumia 2520 and Lumia smartphones. Shoot a video on your Lumia smartphone, share with Nokia Lumia 2520 and then edit it with Nokia Video Director.
  • Nokia Music: The Lumia 2520 will come with an exclusive version of Nokia Music with Mix Radio for a rich music discovery experience.
  • HERE Maps: With HERE Maps, you’ll get true offline map support for a fast and reliable maps experience even in areas with no connectivity.

Developed in partnership with DreamWorks Animation – the Lumia 2520 is the exclusive device for the new “Dragon’s Adventure” experience. Using HERE Maps and LiveSight integration – you can turn every drive you take with your family into a “How to Train Your Dragon” themed adventure. You can even hold the tablet up and see a dragon right in front of you with the QuestScope Augmented Reality experience. As parents, you can use the Windows Phone companion app as your kids play with the tablet to make things easier or tougher as the “Quest Master” along the way.

The Lumia 2520 will come with Windows RT 8.1 and be available beginning in Q4 2013, with an estimated price of $499 (U.S.). Initially, the Lumia 2520 will roll out in the U.S., UK and Finland with additional countries to follow. The Nokia Power Keyboard will be available alongside the Lumia 2520 at the estimated price of $149 (U.S.) and will come in red and black.
