As Director of Mobile Partnerships at TripAdvisor, I have been working closely with the team at Microsoft on the development of the app, and I am really proud of the final result. It brings a seamless app experience across all Windows devices & delivers an amazing travel solution into the Microsoft ecosystem! The new app offers all of the great content and features that have made TripAdvisor the world’s most popular travel app, as well some exciting new smartphone tools that will be available to Windows 10 users for the first time.
Our mindset when developing the app was simple: we wanted to give travelers a simple and comprehensive way to plan, book and have the best trip possible. For us, that meant marrying great tips and advice shared by the global travel community with a fast and easy booking tool that helps you find the best price around and complete the booking, all within a single app experience.
Want to know what previous guests have thought of a place? Over 290 million user reviews and opinions of hotel, restaurants and attractions around the world are just a fingertip away. Want to see how traveller photos really compare to the pictures you’ve seen in those glossy marketing brochures? Not to worry, we have over 46 million candid photos of destinations around the globe. Just need directions to a nearby restaurant? We’ve got you covered with Near Me Now, an in-app tool that navigates you to points of interest using your smartphone’s GPS.
With half of our traffic now from mobile devices, a big priority for us was to make the app experience across Windows 10 devices as seamless as possible. So we are particularly excited to announce that UK and U.S. travelers accessing the TripAdvisor app on their Windows 10 smartphone will now, for the first time, be able to take advantage of the TripAdvisor instant booking platform. This feature allows travelers to easily compare hotel options, check prices and availability and book their accommodation all within the TripAdvisor app – making the whole process of planning and booking your trip so much simpler.
