Panos presented Mr. Hu of JD.com with a custom Type Cover for the new Surface Pro.
Next, Mr. Hu of JD.com joined Panos on stage. JD is one of Surface’s most important partners in China.

And that wasn’t all! We know some customers want to stay connected. So we announced the new Surface Pro will be available in an LTE enabled version later this fall.
Microsoft Whiteboard is currently available in private preview on Surface Hub devices, and for education customers. It will expand to other Windows 10 devices and more segments later this year, with exclusive capabilities for Office 365 subscribers. Robin then invited up Ralf Groene, head of Surface Design, to showcase how Microsoft Whiteboard helps teams co-create.
Microsoft Whiteboard is also intelligent and can predict what you’re trying to create. The intelligence of the cloud is understanding the ink, helping people be more productive.
Eran shared that shapes are recognized and that they can be manipulated with touch.
Microsoft Whiteboard is designed for pen and touch – it’s an immersive experience – recognizing shapes words and meanings, uses AI to predict what you’re doing, and helps you be more productive.
Eran introduced the new Microsoft Whiteboard app.

Robin introduced Eran Megiddo Corporate Vice President of Office to the stage. Together they showed a demo of a product the teams have been working on.
Sometimes the strongest ideas are created together. It’s who we are. We work in teams, we share ideas and concepts. Creation is often done on pen and paper.
With Surface Hub, we created a canvas to help people work side by side. The way that people want to create naturally.
Robin Seiler, GM of Surface Hub and Accessories took to the stage.
Next, we showed something awesome, across Windows, Surface, and Office.
In the blink of an eye, Excel and the new Surface Pro can make over 7 million calculations.
Rui showed how with Excel, the Cloud, and the new Surface Pro you can compile data and showcase rich visual reports.
Next, Panos welcomed Rui Li from the Surface team on stage.
Now onto more applications that show off the integration we’ve done with Office.
They are wrapped in durable and stain resistant Alcantara fabric and with full 1.3mm key travel, and offer faster and more accurate typing.
With the new Surface Pro we’re also bringing you more productivity and personalization with the latest Surface Pro Signature Type Covers.
One of the other ways to stay productive is with an amazing keyboard.
The all-new Surface Pro offers 13.5 hours of battery life, it will keep everyone productive all day.
He said it was awesome. He was able to start his day with a fully charged device and go from meeting to meeting all day, doing all that Satya needed to do – and stayed on all day.
Just a few weeks ago Satya sent Panos and other members of the team an email about his experience with the new Surface Pro.
One of our most passionate self-hosters is our CEO, Satya Nadella.
Panos goes to explain that we test these products in ways you wouldn’t believe. We test every inch of the product and self-host it.
Panos explained that the new Surface Pro is 1.5x times faster than the iPad Pro with the latest Intel processors. We now passively cool our core i5 architecture which allows us to remove our fans on the i5 device.
Now more on the performance of the new Surface Pro from Panos.
Office apps now include a customizable gallery for your favorite pens, pencils, and highlighters, which automatically roams with you across apps and devices. This means your personalized inking tools stay handy wherever you work.
Panos also showed the new Digital Pencil case feature from Office, that allows your digital pens to follow you in Office 365, no matter the device.
Panos showed how ink replay comes to life and flows into Office. Every stroke coming to life, with shading and tilt. Office is bringing eight new colors, gold, silver, rose gold, bronze, galaxy, rainbow, ocean and lava with beautiful metallic ink effects. Office has over 16 million different types of colors.
PowerPoint has over 16 million colors which come to life best on the new Surface Pro and with the new Surface Pen.
Next Panos showed interaction with the new Surface Pen in Microsoft PowerPoint.
The New Surface Pen has over 4096 levels of pressure and 9 grams of activation force. 21 milliseconds of latency.
Writing and drawing on your Surface device with the new Surface Pen feels like writing or drawing on paper, with features such as tilt for shading, increased pressure sensitivity levels, and faster inking.
Panos showed how the new Surface Pen takes advantage of tilt and pressure, helping you create in a more natural way.
The new Surface Pen will bring you the fastest digital ink on the planet.
Along with the new Surface Pro, today, we bring you an all-new Surface Pen.
The new Surface Pro has our best hinge ever allowing you to push it down to a full 165 degrees into Studio Mode. Helping you write and bring creations to life easier.
Panos also highlighted how we created another amazing hinge.
Not only is the new Surface Pro faster and more powerful, it is the quietest Surface we’ve ever made with its fanless design.
With over 800 new custom parts, it brings you a vibrant 12.3″ PixelSense Display with 267ppi and 3:2 aspect ratio.
The new Surface Pro gives you up to 13.5 hours of battery life, 68% more than Surface Pro 3.
Panos discussed how we took everything our customers love and made it better. Completely redesigned from the inside out with all new custom parts, the new Surface Pro delivers more battery power, more performance, and a superior display.

Surface’s journey is a continued evolution.
Panos explained that each version of our Surface line delivers meaningful innovation.
Panos shared that the team created Surface to click in and do more, a tablet with a kickstand. We put full core processing in a tablet, people said it couldn’t be done. We did it.
Surface’s evolution and the evolution of Shanghai have parallels.
Panos shared that it’s amazing to see how China is booming and growing. “It’s the embodiment of possibility and what people and technology can build together.”
Panos spoke to how he started coming to China 13 years ago and how it’s changed.
Shifting gears a bit, Panos shared that today is about something different, it’s about going back to the beginning.
The Surface team is thrilled to bring Surface Studio and Surface Laptop to China on June 15!
Panos shared that Surface Laptop is available for pre-order today in China with availability on June 15.

A few weeks ago we announced a new Surface coming to the family, and for Panos, it was important for him to come to China to personally to introduce the product.
Starting today, people in China can pre-order Surface Studio and Surface Dial with availability June 15th.
Panos returned to the stage.
Showing some of the newest features on SketchBook that take advantage of the Surface Dial – Radial Symmetry. Radial Symmetry takes each of the strokes and mirrors into the 16 sectors. Showing how to change brush color, redo or undo strokes that we don’t like for example. The fastest and most natural way to create digital images is with Surface Studio. What would have taken hours, took under three minutes on Studio.
Michelle created a dragon inspired by the upcoming dragon boat festival and used a brush specifically created for traditional Chinese watercolor.
Michelle demonstrated how Surface Studio revolutionalized how she creates art work – drawing live on stage.
Live Demo time! Panos welcomed Michelle Li, a digital artist, from Autodesk SketchBook to the stage.
Together, Surface Studio, Surface Pen, Surface Dial and the Windows 10 Creators Update bring all new ways to interact and create. Ways that people have never created before. There are beautiful masterpieces being created every day.

Panos started by talking about Surface Studio. Surface is about creating products and categories where nothing stands in the way of bringing your ideas to life. A great example of this is Surface Studio.
Time for news! Panos shared that, “Today, we are excited to tell you we’re bringing three new Surface Products to China.”
Customers and businesses across China are using Surface, including key customers like China Merchant Bank, the largest commercial bank in China. They are using Surface to redefine and change how they reach their customers.
“China was one of the first markets that ever launched Surface….from last year to this year Surface grew over 50 percent.” said Panos Panay
It was five years ago that we launched Surface to the world to change the way people are productive. Over those years we’ve continued to iterate, learn, and grow the Surface portfolio.
Panos kicked things off by talking about some Surface history and momentum.

That was it from Terry, next up we welcomed Panos Panay, Corporate Vice President, Devices, Microsoft.
Lastly, Terry shared that NetEase, our partner bringing Minecraft to China, will offer two more betas this summer on the way to a beautiful Windows 10 and Xbox One experience. This is going to be a great summer for gamers in China!
“Along with AAA games like Forza, I love the experiences the indy community creates for Xbox fans,” says Myerson. “I love being here in China to celebrate the local game developers who are bringing their creations to the worldwide market like Spotlightor Interactive with their game Candleman, as well as “Little Triangle” from CottonGame and “Wenjia” from Dilemma Studio.”
Terry also announced we’re bringing the next season of Forza Racing Championship, the most inclusive racing competition in gaming, to ChinaJoy in Shanghai this summer.
With that Terry announced, we’re thrilled to share that Project Scorpio, the most powerful console we’ve ever created, will be available this year for Xbox fans in China.
At Microsoft, we were honored to be the first company to bring a next-generation game console to China in 2014 with the launch of Xbox One.
Albert Einstein once said: “Creativity is intelligence having fun!” And having fun and making and playing games is a big part of how we express creativity.
Next up: we talked about gaming!
Terry shared that the creativity we’ve seen from developers around the globe with HoloLens has no bounds and we’re so excited to see what China, the world’s biggest market for virtual reality, will do with HoloLens and Windows Mixed Reality.
Terry announced: Today, we begin shipping HoloLens in China!
Did you know that since 2016 over 22,000 developers imagined over 70,000 transformative concepts on HoloLens? Leading to over 5 million hours where people were immersed in holographic experiences.
“Not very long ago, a team of people at Microsoft had the courage to look beyond modern-day computing. They set their sights on discovering a new ocean of possibility. And they created HoloLens, the world’s first fully untethered holographic computer, with endless possibilities to unleash our creativity in mixing our digital and physical worlds.” said Terry
Terry thanked Beth and Lenovo for their partnership and shifted gears to about three new experiences coming to China.
Ms. Xu shared she is excited to announce that our partners at Lenovo will be one of the first OEMs to pre-install Windows 10 China Government Edition.
Ms. Xu now shared updates about CMIT customer pilots. She talked about working with customers in three levels of the government: at the national level with China Customs, at the regional level with City of Shanghai (EITC) and at the state-owned enterprise level with Westone.
Ms. Xu of CMIT shared information about the joint venture between Microsoft and CETC and our work together to develop advanced, secure and localized Windows 10 China Government Edition for China government customers.
To share more about this partnership Terry welcomed Beth Xu, CEO of CMIT, to the stage to talk more about our partnership.
“With the strong support of CETC and Microsoft, CMIT, our joint venture, has now developed a version of Windows 10 for China government customers. This monumental moment was only possible through our partnership and support of the Chinese government,” says Terry Myerson
Now for why Terry is in China. For 22 years, Microsoft has had the distinct honor to work in China, learning and advancing technology together. For the last two years, we have earnestly cooperated with the Chinese government on the security review of Windows 10. We are pleased with the transparency and objectiveness of their review process. We agree with the outcome of the review.
And that together with our partners we’re inspiring a generation of creators to do more, create more, be more productive, and have more fun.
Terry recognized our Chinese partners like Lenovo, Xiaomi, and Huawei who are building new devices and experiences that light up Windows 10 for our customers.
Terry began by sharing his excitement for being in China. That we’re here today to celebrate creativity and innovation in China and around the world.
