Create4Millions – app building for the Next Billion

GLOBAL – Today, Nokia announces a new initiative to bring more great apps to the Series 40 platform and to the Next Billion. Create 4 Millions invites consumers to come up with a great idea for an app and developers to submit their Series 40 Java or web apps. The winning app creator and idea submitter could win some prizes. Want to take part? Read on for more details.

Creating apps for the Next Billion is a great opportunity to make the user experience on a Series 40 device a much better experience. With over 35 percent growth in download volumes from Ovi Store in the past two months, you can see there’s real opportunity here.

There are two parts to to this Create 4 Millions competition. On one side, the IdeasProject is asking people to come up with and submit an idea for a Series 40 app that adds value and depth to the lives of people, especially for those in emerging markets.

There are three main categories that people need to slot their idea into: Health & Education; Social Networking & Location; and Games & Infotainment. If you’ve already thought of a great idea for an app, but see somebody else has already submitted that idea, you’ve got the chance to vote for their entry, comment or even collaborate with that person. Your ideas could make that app idea even stronger.

If you’ve got a winning idea, the three best idea creators will be invited to Nokia World in London in October 2011, where you’ll see your app turned from idea into a reality. Plus you’ll win a new Nokia dual-SIM phone to use your app on.

Then there’s the other side, where Nokia Developer is asking the developers to actually submit an app. If you’re a developer – or not, but are thinking of giving it a go – you could win a share of a cash prize and other prizes, worth up to a total of €1,000,000. That’s no small figure. Developers are encouraged to create apps in four categories: In the Know; Fun & Games; Emotional Closeness; and Access to Knowledge. Again, the focus is creating an app with real value that will enrich people’s lives, particularly in emerging markets.

For people up for a real challenge, special prizes will be awarded to apps that showcase the best use of Nokia’s Maps and location APIs; the best touch feature in an app; and the best overall app for a Series 40 mobile phone.

Here’s a video from IdeasProject, explaining a bit about this initiative.
