Last week, we brought you a list of our must-have apps to take full advantage of the imaging capabilities of the new Nokia Lumia 1020. Today, we’re pleased to share what we’re calling “the essentials” – apps you’ll need on the Nokia Lumia 1020 for when you’re not taking photos.
1. HERE Maps
HERE Maps can get you from your front door to your final destination, even if that means a particular shop inside a mall, or a gate number at an airport – all thanks to the incorporated Venue Maps.
The GoPro app enables you to control your GoPro camera right from your Lumia. You can also overlay the smartphones camera view on top of the live GoPro view to record different angles of the same subject at the same time with picture-in-picture mode – a Lumia exclusive.
Windows Phone is built for sharing, as WP devices come packed with social network options built right into the OS. This version of Facebook also supports HD photos, as well as an improved timeline.
The Twitter app for your Lumia 1020 is a great way to keep that flurry of 140-character conversations going while on the move – also includes the new photo filters.
Check-in to venues using Foursquare, leave a tip (of the non-monetary type) within the app and share it with all your friends via your other social networks.
6. Nokia Conversations app
Yes, we realize you’re reading a Nokia Conversations blog post at this very moment! However, pop this app on your Lumia smartphone and stay up-to-date on Nokia news – including tips on new apps – hot off the presses!
Windows Phone users can utilize Skype in a new way, as users can integrate the app directly into your People Hub. This allows you to connect via Skype with friends, family and colleagues right within your contact list.
Voxer transforms your Lumia 1020 into a virtual ‘walkie-talkie,’ allowing for instant voice messages back-and-forth between devices. 10-4 – over and out!
Netflix members can stream TV-series or movies right from their smartphone – and with the Lumia 1020, you can enjoy all the action on its 4.5’ AMOLED ClearBlack display.

Get the most out of your XBOX with this SmartGlass, which lets you navigate your XBOX 360 by using your phone’s touchscreen as a touchpad.
The Weather app: it’s the meat and potatoes of the smartphone world. For some, it’s the most heavily used app in their collection. Windows Phone brings you the forecast from the most reliable source – The Weather Channel.
Foodspotting helps you seek out the best local restaurants, and recommend specific dishes. Don’t forget to share your food-photos with a community of fellow foodies.
14. The Coffee Bean®
Did you know you can charge the Nokia Lumia 1020 wirelessly, using a wireless charging shell? Why not enjoy a cup of coffee while you’re at it? The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® chain provide free wireless charging in some stores, so use this app to find a store to recharge your own batteries, as well as your Nokia Lumia 1020.
15. Domino’s Pizza
Closing it out with a guilty pleasure: gooey, cheesy pizza goodness from Domino’s. Order directly through the app and then use the tracker to see where it is en route.
16. ESPN Fantasy Football
The pigskin is whistling through the air again at training camps across the U.S. and that means football season is right around the corner. Of course, it also means that football fanatics the world over will be huddling up in their own personal war rooms to draft a championship-caliber fantasy football team, and ESPN has you covered this season on Windows Phone.
